The location is great, right in the middle of Miami Beach. Parking is public and self-serve around the corner, so I’d drop the luggage at HGV first, then park and walk back. The McAlpine Ocean Plaza is apparently the better of the three at the moment. Check-in, the gym, and activities are there too. The Crescent itself needs an update, and HGV said they’re working on it. Take the Art Deco tour for a feel for the area’s history and architecture.

The location is the big plus. It’s right on the main beach, with a Starbucks and restaurants nearby. The room was clean and tidy, and the accommodation was usable, with reasonable staff, but several small things got in the way. We arrived Sunday and the listed phone number wasn’t staffed. Check-in was actually two doors down. The elevator was very old and dated, and another guest even warned us not to use it. Water pressure was poor, and the building could use some care. Nothing was terrible on its own, but it all affected the stay. I wouldn’t recommend it.

The location was just what I wanted, with an easy walk to the beach and the Art Deco district all around. My only concern was that during our four-night stay, housekeeping came once.

Tall Paul is always friendly and helpful, and gives great suggestions for local restaurants. The front desk staff were professional and kind, and the service was great. Our one-bedroom suite had a kitchenette and was spacious, very clean, and well furnished. The Hilton properties around here also have a nice rooftop beach view, and the beach is only a short walk away.

At 1:21 a.m. on 10/31, I called the front desk after a large number of ants landed on me. My wife had tossed me a bag of cookies from the counter while I was on the bed, and the ants came with it. The front desk blamed me for leaving the cookies out, saying the ants were attracted to the food. I said they wouldn’t have come for it if they hadn’t already been there. They only offered to bring new sheets. I’ll speak with the manager in the morning about how rude, unhelpful, and dismissive the front desk was.
