The location is perfect, but the owner should step aside and let someone else manage the property. Housekeeping does a decent job, yet the hostel itself is in awful condition. There was an overpowering sour, death-like smell in the lobby. I can only guess that animals died in the pipes or walls. There’s also a sign saying no food or drinks on the roo, even though every room has a refrigerator. That makes no sense.
It was an okay stay, but I probably wouldn’t come back. I was charged more than double what a simple room change should have cost when I upgraded from a coed room to a six-bed women-only room. There were cockroaches everywhere, and the hostel should use traps or repellent and seal any holes in the rooms and building. My six-bed dorm had only three lockers, when there should have been one for each person.
You get what you pay for here, and it doesn’t feel like a resort. The building gets mopped daily, and it also rained a lot, so slip-resistant shoes would be a good idea. The staff felt more like fellow travelers than regular employees. When a major fire happened during my stay, we didn’t get any real help from anyone. It was an experience, and I might come back if they remodeled the place.
The murals are nice, but this place wasn’t good for relaxing on vacation. The building feels old, and the AC was so weak that I was nearly sweating every day. Check-in at the hostel took forever each time, and the front desk people seemed to have an attitude and little compassion. The skinny young white guy with glasses and black hair was really nice, though. He deserves to be a manager. Jorge was so sweet and kind too. I’ll never forget that.
Tolu was the nicest front desk attendant ever. We had an issue with one room, and he quickly helped us find a better solution. When some sketchy guys started talking to us outside the hostel, he came out to protect us. 10/10!
