We chose Hyde Midtown over AirBnB after comparing options, since the hotel offered a higher quality room for the same price. We were in Miami to celebrate a birthday, and it was a beautiful place to stay. The central location was our favorite part: a quick couple minutes’ drive got us to every part of Miami, and surrounding stores and nightlife were within walking distance. Staff were friendly and helpful all weekend. The room was clean and spacious, with a nice view of the open park outside. There was a very large gym with a good range of equipment, bigger than most we’ve seen at other hotels, as well as a nice rooftop pool. We’ll definitely come back when we visit Miami.

The pool stays shaded until 2 pm, and you have to call every day to get pool towels. You also need to ask for room towels and bed linens to be changed, or they put the dirty ones back. Having to request all the basic things a hotel should do is exhausting and takes away from the experience. The property is good for people who like quiet, though: it’s a residential building with a hotel portion, so the common areas, including the pool, are quiet. Rooms are nice, clean, and modern, and most have a balcony. Front desk attendants vary, but Alice and Robinson are excellent. The location is great for restaurants, parks, museums, and shopping.

Lice were the icing on the cake. We absolutely did not get them from anywhere else and had never had them before. We paid $922 for two nights. The room door made a loud whistling noise whenever it was closed, all night and day, making it hard to concentrate or sleep. Towels and bed linens smelled like a dirty locker, and the furniture was incredibly cheap and uncomfortable. The “sofa” in the living room was basically wood covered in cheap cloth. There was a fire alarm going off for a long time for no reason, followed by announcements piped into our room. For hours on Sunday we could hear a jackhammer reverberating through the whole concrete building, though no construction had been mentioned when booking. Staff were generally hard to find and blasé toward guests when we did find them. The valet asked for my room number as soon as I pulled up, before I’d even checked in. We were put on the second floor above a restaurant playing blaring music, and hotel staff didn’t know how early it started or how late it played. I had requested two extra pillows and four extra bath towels in my reservation, but none were in the room. I called right away, then had to call three times and finally go to the desk in person. After 20 minutes, one pillow and one towel showed up. We asked for at least one more of each and nobody came back. After another 30 minutes I went down and asked in person for another pillow and three more bath towels. About 30 minutes later, one more pillow and one towel arrived. Go elsewhere!

The room smelled disgusting, like marijuana. We told the front desk, and supervisors and managers came to check it. They said there was nothing wrong with the room, despite the smell, and didn’t meet our needs or offer any accommodation. They said they’d only provide an upgraded room if we paid the difference. They also refused our refund request, so we were stuck in another smelly room. This hotel is dirty and smelly and should be avoided.

The toilet was clogged before I even used it, and the hotel was dirty when I first came in. The sheets and blankets had stains. I was charged a smoking fee for smoking on the balcony. They told me the amenities were closed, but after checking out I found they were open. A terrible experience overall. I could have slept outside and had the same level of stay.
