Residence Inn Miami West/FL Turnpike

It was Valentine's weekend, and finding another hotel at the last minute wasn't an option. I was already frustrated after a long day of waiting, especially since I'd booked many days ahead. I understood when they said no rooms were ready during my early check-in attempt. They asked me to come back in an hour, then said to return at 2pm. After 3pm, they still said my room wasn't available because of late checkouts, and told me to wait another 45 minutes. Meanwhile, I saw other guests checking in. This hotel won't be my choice again.

The sheets and towels are always very clean, which is a Marriott hallmark, and the hotel is great for the price. The front desk was very nice to us and let us have breakfast even though we arrived at 5am, well before the usual 3pm check-in.

The room looked great, was clean, and smelled nice. The first day, the front desk treated my team and me well, and breakfast was great. The lobby and breakfast area were nice too. Then we ran into problems with the room's electricity. Turning off the kitchen light by the entrance also left several other lights out: the one by the bed, the lamps hanging from the bed, three lights near the kitchen, and the closet light. The GFI in the bathroom wouldn't reset either. Laundry was another issue. I don't carry cash because it's 2025, and at a higher-end hotel with everything digital, only one washing machine took a credit card. After I got six quarters for the dryer, its door still wouldn't close all the way like a normal dryer. I brought different issues to different staff members. One of them told me, in their words, “People like to complain at night.” That's the kind of service I'd expect at a one- or even two-star hotel, but here we are.

The staff were very friendly, and Christian at the front desk was extremely nice. The room itself needs work, though. I found a chicken bone in the hallway on the way there, then saw mold and hair on the shower wall. After I was moved, there was food on the ceiling and stuck to the light fixture. Kind of wild, haha. The bottom of the bathroom door also had serious water damage. I travel for a living and have stayed in a lot of hotels, and this one needs some work.
