Staybridge Suites Middleton Madison-West by IHG

We checked in late and ended up leaving for another hotel. I have a severe dog allergy, and after seeing all the dog signs I told the woman at the desk I was concerned. She said not to worry because they deep clean. But our room smelled of old dog and cigarette smoke under room freshener. It was dirty, with stains on the seats, suspicious spots on the mattress, a dirty shower and a gross showerhead. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and the furnace banged and rumbled every other hour. We got no sleep and were exhausted for our convention. I’m now dealing with upper respiratory problems, which I believe are from the unclean room, dog dander, and mold. Chipped furniture wasn’t my main concern, but bodily fluid stains on the chairs and a nasty mattress were too much. I’m a Gold member with IHG. My first photo showed discolored, bad-smelling makeup remover; the second showed mattress stains; the third showed one of the room chairs.

The location was perfect for us, but the accommodations weren’t. At 7:45 in the morning I called because there was no hair dryer in our room. The desk said housekeeping could bring one by 9:00. I don’t understand why they couldn’t get one from an unoccupied room. We were told we had to check out by 9:00, and repeated calls to the desk went unanswered. The dryer finally arrived at 9:00, putting us well behind our departure time. A simple fix turned into a horrible stay.

We stayed for six weeks and loved the amenities so much that we’re coming back next year. The hotel looks tired, so I’m happy to hear the Middleton property is being remodeled. Adam Lehman in sales and Troy Cramblit in operations were attentive and worked through everything I needed during our stay. A few people made us feel especially welcome. Jon handled breakfast most days and stayed on top of refills. Jill ran happy hour on Mondays and Tuesdays, always smiling and keen to get to know everyone. Alyssa did Wednesdays and was just as lovely. DJ at the front desk was always smiling, and Gilberto in maintenance was a pleasure to get to know and speak a little Spanish with.

The building is old, and only one burner on the stove worked, even though I stayed five days mainly for the kitchenette. The couch had such disgusting stains that we covered it with a sheet. The toilet and tub were old and dirty, we never got fresh towels, and the pool and jacuzzi were so gross we couldn’t swim at all. I also lost my gold band and reported it to management two days after my stay. Manager Troy didn’t apologize or make any effort to look for it. I wouldn’t stay here, and they don’t deserve your money.
