Courtyard by Marriott Midland

I was in town for work and hardly spent time in my room. It was nice enough, with maybe a little remodeling needed but nothing major. The breakfast staff in the mornings were the best, always smiling and helpful. My only real issue was the two evening cafe workers. It closed at 10, and I usually got back around 9 after a long day of meetings, so I ate there rather than head back out. I apologized more than once for coming an hour before closing, but the service was awful. When I asked for a bag of tea, one of them literally threw it at me, and they spoke to me rudely. Probably the worst customer service I've had. Everyone else was great.

The bed was awful, lumpy and caved in, like sleeping in a hole, and the pillows were rock hard. I could hear the next room's conversation clearly on several nights. There were stains from dripping liquid on my wall, the shower door wouldn't close so water pooled outside, and there was no hot water. The furniture was worn out, including mismatched, dated hallway pieces that looked like they came from Goodwill. For the price, it felt like a total ripoff. I don't understand how it has four stars, and it doesn't feel like a standard Marriott hotel.

The staff were friendly and the rooms clean, which is about all this place has going for it. I had to switch rooms because the TV was broken, then the elevators were broken too. In the third room, the desk chair was busted and tipped me backwards when I sat down.

There was standing water in the carpeted hallway outside room 401, no hot water, and the phone line didn't work. The front desk woman was the least personable person I've ever dealt with, despite staying at Marriotts nearly every week for work all over the U.S. Avoid this hotel at all costs.
