Amish Country Comfort

The room felt warm and cozy, from the decor to the comfortable, warm beds. My daughter had a little bag waiting on her bed with fruit snacks and cookies, which are her favorites, and they also had the hot cocoa I’d asked about. We enjoyed the private patio and the birds singing in the morning. We’ll come back in spring so we can make better use of it.

My sister and I brought my granddaughters, ages 13 and 16, and they said it was the best place they’d ever stayed. We all loved it. A++ for the charm and for how much thought went into making guests feel welcome.

The space was very clean and had all the comforts of home, which we appreciated. But this B&B occupies half of the owners’ walkout basement, with an interior door between the rental and their side that only locks from their side. At 9 pm on our anniversary, the owner came bursting through it to turn on the porch lights. They were already on. She said she didn’t know we were there, even though I’d emailed to say we were arriving by bicycle and received confirmation. The renter’s side needs a latch for privacy and safety.

The loudest problem was the work happening overhead. I knew the unit was downstairs in the owners’ house and expected some noise, but floor installation seemed to start right above us around 9 am and went on for at least three hours. We left at noon and the hammering and drilling were still going. That kind of work should have come with advance notice. The unit itself was clean, comfortable, and unusual in a good way. We liked the morning muffins and cinnamon rolls, and it’s close to downtown, though I wouldn’t call it walking distance in cold weather. When we arrived around 5:30 Friday evening, the back porch light was off, which made getting inside and entering the code a little awkward. Also, the yogurt was expired, so we didn’t eat it. It’s a nice place, but not an exceptional value. Check that no home improvements are planned during your stay.
