After hiking Katahdin, it was lovely to come back to this small, cute cabin. The owner was great and helped us figure out where to go when our car had problems. I didn’t like how hard it was to ask for towels and soap, which weren’t provided, especially since I got in really late and left early the next morning. Still, it was a great stay and I’d definitely return.

The cabins were quiet and had fresh, crisp sheets and comforters, which I liked much better than hotel blankets or spreads. We were comfortable while still getting that mountain life feel. Each day there were homemade muffins or cookies waiting for us. It’s a family-run business, and we had a great stay. The common room, which is also a cabin, has a big TV, sofa, and table for meals, games, or spreading out. There’s a grill, cooking utensils, and a large hotplate to use. Town is minutes away, and the small airport nearby is very quiet, with skydiving and Moose Tours. The cabins are close to Baxter State Park and about an hour from Bangor.

The cabin was overbooked, so we were sent to a local motel for the first night. There was no refrigerator there, and we had perishables because we expected the small fridge at the cabin. When we arrived the next day, the owner gave my husband cash to cover the motel cost. Our cabin didn’t have the white down comforters I expected. The coverlets were old, thin, and stained, maybe dirty. There were no cookies or muffins, and the “bakery” beside the cabins seemed to be a thing of the past. We had to ask for clean towels, and bathroom garbage piled up instead of being removed daily. There was no pet policy, but dogs were in one cabin every day we were there. I guess expecting more for $59 a night was silly. Lesson learned.

After more than five hours of driving for a family trip to raft the Penobscot River in August, we reached our ‘cabin’ and left without staying. The property was trashed, and the inside was just as bad. Towels were nailed over holes in the walls, bugs and spiders were in the corners, and there were fleas jumping on my husband from the floor and bed area while we took turns using the bathroom. It felt creepy and horrifying. We contacted the owner, who texted an apology after a few days and said he’d refund us, but he never did. I reached out several more times and got no reply or money back. Terrible customer service and experience. We found a room down the street at Katahdin Inn and Suites. Don’t be put off by the outside, it was really nice and cozy inside.

I cancelled my prepaid booking well before the 14 day cut-off because my plans changed. The cabin owner/manager emailed twice to assure me a refund would be processed. It’s now almost four months later, and my third email asking about it has gone unanswered. I’m still out the $219 they charged me.
