The one real advantage is the central downtown Minneapolis location, which made it easy to get elsewhere. I’m a Hilton Honors member and stay at plenty of properties, including DoubleTrees, but this place was a dump. We learned at check-in that the whole building had no AC. The windows opened only about four inches and had no screens, and they offered box fans. There’d been no sign on the door or email before arrival. They did offer a free cancellation, but by then we were standing in the lobby. The nights were expected to cool down, so I stayed. I figured I’d make the best of it with the bar and restaurant, but both were closed, again with no warning, reason, or solution. Staff seemed aware of the problems and unwilling to engage with guests. The rooms were worn, with cracked lampshades and dim lighting. On day two, I returned around 4 pm to find the hot water shut off, without any visible or verbal notice. It came back, but the bar and restaurant were still closed. On day three, there was no hot water at all when I tried around 7 am. The water ran but never got hot. I still don’t know whether they were remodeling, making repairs, or what. Colleagues who canceled and rebooked said the Hilton down the street and The Hilton Garden Inn were much better choices. What’s going on at this property?

The food was fast and all of it was great. We had salad, soup, pasta, and steak, with the ribeye easily the standout. Lisa did a great job bartending, and the kitchen did too. Luis was also really friendly. I saw him a couple more times going in and out of the gym, and he always said hello. Neither he nor Deigo knew I was a diamond member. Our room was clean and tidy, and the housekeeper deserves recognition. But it and the hallway were at least 85 degrees. Deigo at the front desk had made a warm, professional first impression, and he explained the heating and cooling system in detail when I came back down. He said he couldn’t control it, then sent up a box fan, which Luis delivered. My wife and I were there just one night for a date night. Aside from the room being too warm, we had a great stay and would definitely return. Deigo set the tone, and Luis and Lisa were great, too.

The staff were helpful, respectful, and understanding when I politely raised my concerns. The hotel itself was a letdown: there was no air conditioning or breakfast as advertised, and a bucket sat under the leaky sink in our room. Renovation noise started above us at 8 am, with loud tools waking my friend and me after a late night. I thought I was booking a four-star hotel.

Maybe it’s fine if you’re on a budget, but I probably won’t stay again. The room, 501, had no light in the bedroom. Breakfast was in a tiny space and pretty pricey: about $10 for one slice of bacon and one piece of French toast. I drank four glasses of milk trying to make it feel more worthwhile. I also heard from some guests in the elevator that their first room had poop on the walls, so I was glad that wasn’t mine. One thing they really should do is tell guests the cookies contain nuts. My friend is allergic and started breaking out because we didn’t know until we got to the room. I was also surprised by the $100 security deposit, since I’m used to paying $100 for the whole stay regardless of length, though maybe I just haven’t been enough places.

With three children, including an infant, we were miserable in the heat because there was no air conditioning. The lobby ceiling was falling apart, with holes. The hotel had said it offered room service, but when I called to order, they told me they didn’t have “actual room service.” The restaurant menu QR code didn’t work either. The place wasn’t very clean, which was hard with my nine-month-old wanting to crawl around. Parking was a ridiculous $30 a night. It was a total waste of money, and I left disappointed. I don’t usually write reviews, but I want to save others the trouble of booking here.
