On road trips, we stay at Home 2 whenever we can. Hilton did a good job putting the place together, and it’s comfortable, with the things you want from home. I especially like having a refrigerator with a freezer, a small kitchen, and, when needed, two separate rooms. The beds are always comfortable, with extra blankets and pillows. The facilities always have spas and free breakfast. On this trip I also found out they have washers and dryers.

I was there for a week on a business trip. The front desk staff were friendly, and the room had a very modern feel. It wasn’t quiet, though. The hotel is practically next to the police station, so I heard sirens almost every hour. There was also a bright red fire alarm light flashing constantly in the room. You get used to it after a few days. Parking was hard to find, and valet seemed expensive when I was already paying for a room. Hero parking cost a lot less, but I had to leave my car about five blocks away. It was around a seven-minute walk, so manageable.

It’s near Target Arena, but the closest supermarket was a 12-minute walk. They also require a $100 deposit for every night, by card only. They haven’t returned mine and are ignoring my calls and messages. It’s not a huge amount, but it’s really disappointing to feel like my money was stolen.

My stepdaughter is in the army, and my son and I booked six nights while we waited to find out when my husband would be discharged after open-heart surgery. We explained what was going on and asked about an active military discount, but they wouldn’t make an exception. They wouldn’t let us add one more night at the rate we’d paid for the previous six. For Tuesday, they wanted more than double, over $400, so we had to pack up and leave. We’d been ideal guests and were only asking for a little compassion and some flexibility. I usually love this hotel chain, but this stay was a real disappointment. It wasn’t what I expected from Tru.

We were in Minneapolis for an unknown length of time because my father had just had open-heart surgery. Home2 Suites these were not. The rooms felt cramped, like hospital rooms, and weren’t good for a longer stay. Outside, people left weed and bottles of piss by our parked car, and valet cost $50 a night. When we tried to extend by one day, they wanted over $400 a night even though there were open rooms. Our original rate was just under $200, and they wouldn’t honor it. Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere else.
