We left after about 15 minutes. The cabin was so disgusting that we couldn't stay, and it wasn't even good enough for our dog, despite being pet friendly. We'd booked well ahead, but after an 11-hour drive we arrived at 5:30 pm to find it still wasn't ready. Our things were already unloaded outside, and we stood there for an hour and a half while the cleaner finished, getting rained on along with our belongings. Inside, the bleach and chemical smell was so strong I could hardly breathe and got a headache almost immediately. There was no window screen, so we couldn't air it out. The TV, fridge, and air conditioner didn't work, and there were stains on the rugs over the painted concrete floors, plus centipedes and other unidentified bugs crawling around. The place looked nothing like the pictures and was badly misrepresented. We weren't refunded, even though we couldn't stay. Some of these reviews seem to have come from friends rather than customers. This is the most extreme dive we've ever seen.

The confirmation clearly said Eagle Nest, but when we arrived on Saturday, June 25, we were put in a red cottage instead. We'd booked in March and paid a deposit for the cabin area, yet Steve said we were the last to arrive and he was full. We paid, but he wouldn't adjust the charge, and we were told rooms couldn't be requested. I won't return, and I'd warn others away. The fridge in our room leaked, and some windows had no screens. You also have to track Steve down when you need towels or the garbage changed. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

The people in Minnewaukan turned what could have been a ruined weekend into a blast. The folks at Gill's Bar and Grill, including its great patrons, helped us out, and I'd highly recommend stopping there for the food, service, and people. We needed the one spot that could fit our 44' fifth wheel, but Steve, the owner of Spirit Water Inn Resort, gave it to someone else, leaving us homeless over Fourth of July weekend. This is just a 10-spot place to park with no accommodations, not a campground and nowhere near a resort. I wouldn't recommend Spirit Water Inn Resort to anyone at all.

Ask about the Helberg Lodge. It's a beautiful spot that works well for a get-together or a trip. Steve was friendly and really accommodating.

The oven kept tripping the breakers, so cooking was difficult. It's newly renovated, with a window AC unit and satellite TV, which came in handy during storms when we couldn't get out on the lake.
