We both woke with sore backs after a poor night’s sleep in Room 4 at Hotel Minturn. The bed sags and has what seem to be many broken springs. It’s completely unacceptable, and a camping mat on the floor would have been a major improvement. We later found similar complaints from a month or more earlier, with no apparent fix. The room’s furniture was worn and dingy, and the cleanliness was below par. It’s shocking to get such poor accommodations as paying guests. For something nearby that we did like, the Thai restaurant and Minturn Whisky Co. (The Wee Dram) are only a few steps away and both are worth recommending.

Room 4 was stuffy, and we barely slept, partly because other guests were slamming doors and shouting to each other at 2-3 am. The room is in the basement, with just one small unscreened window opening onto a 10 foot high window well. The other rooms have large windows that open for ventilation. The mattress sags badly and should have been replaced a long time ago. There was also a hole in the Sheetrock where the front door knob had apparently been forced open. That wasn’t the establishment’s fault. We’d enjoyed our first stay at Hotel Minturn enough to come back, but this visit was very different.

The price didn’t feel justified, even though the hotel is really cute and well located. The rooms look nice, but the mattress seemed old and was extremely uncomfortable. Our room also stayed very warm, with no ceiling or portable fan, and got so stuffy that I was sweating nonstop in there during WINTER. I’d only stay again if they replaced the mattress and added some kind of fan.

For a simple, minimalist hotel stay, I’d recommend Hotel Minturn. It’s affordable and centrally located, tucked just off the main street, and checking in was incredibly easy. A great spot for a weekend away.

My dog and I were both comfortable in the large room, and free parking was a plus. The host communicated quickly and warmly, even though I booked at the last minute. Lots of restaurants are an easy walk away, and I’d happily stay again.
