Hyatt Place South Bend / Mishawaka

Our room was spacious and clean, and the free breakfast was more than adequate. The dining areas were nice, and Guest Services were very kind and accommodating. We had a good two-day stay!

It'd be nice to have bigger bedside tables with USB ports. Having to crawl underneath to find an outlet at the end of the night isn't great. The bigger problem, though, was the overpowering fragrance throughout the first floor and into the elevators. It burned my throat and eyes day and night, and the smell stayed on my clothes. Why do hotels think they need fragrances? Cleanliness doesn't need to be covered up.

The shower only worked for about half a shower before it, and all the water in the hotel, shut off. It had only about a quarter of what looked like a shower door, leaving wallpaper exposed to water and each bathroom at risk of mold. The towels sat on a shelf inside the shower, so don't expect dry ones. The place has the Hyatt classic suicide-friendly shower, too. There are roughly 200 rooms but just one microwave, too small for a TV dinner, so enjoy waiting in line to heat food. This is a trashy hotel. Avoid it if you can. It's probably the worst hotel I've stayed at.

When I turned on the shower, rusty water came out for at least two full minutes. That's unacceptable for maintenance and guest safety and needs immediate attention. The only working elevator had a strong smoke smell, since Elevator 1 was out of service. When I needed help, nobody was at the front desk, and the place felt understaffed and poorly managed. I travel weekly for work and expected much better given the location and brand. The rooms are seriously outdated, with cracked walls, visible holes, and other clear disrepair. There were no smart TVs, which is below what most business travelers expect today. I can't recommend this property in its current state and wouldn't stay here again.
