My husband was working in Kermit, so this hotel meant a bit of a drive for him. Still, the manager and staff took great care of us, and whenever I asked for something, they handled it right away. Our room and bathroom were clean and stocked, with no bad smells or stains, and the mattress was fairly comfortable. Breakfast was served every morning. The washing machine was free, though the dryer cost money, and both were on the second floor. We’d gladly stay again and recommend it for a night, a weekend, or a couple of weeks.

Check-in was quick, and our ground-floor room was easy to get to. It looked clean, but after we unpacked we noticed a smoke-like smell coming through the ventilation, and the air in the room felt terrible. We told the front desk, and they kindly moved us to a room on a higher floor. It was a decent stay overall, but the rooms could use better maintenance.

The room was spacious and clean, but the tub drained poorly, and the safe code was a problem. The desk said they didn’t know it and couldn’t give me one, so I had to lock my belongings in the trunk of my car. Check-in took far too long. I stood at the desk for over 30 minutes, left to get gas, came back, and still nobody was there. The third-floor ice machine didn’t work either. Breakfast wasn’t much, just waffles and boiled eggs. Aside from all that, things were good.

The staff were very nice, the room was clean, and the beds were comfortable. But the room smelled like mildew as soon as we walked in, and the carpet was damp even though we’d just arrived. My seven-year-old found a vial under the bed that looked like it might have meth in it. The air conditioner didn’t cool the room well, the blankets weren’t very good, and the TV picture looked bad, like it was going out.

A solid place to get some rest while driving cross country through West Texas. The Microtel seems fairly new, so it feels clean, nice, and safe. It isn’t a luxury resort, but it’s good for the price. There’s even a Tesla destination charger, which is essential if you’re driving an EV through this part of Texas.
