Holiday Inn Express & Suites Monroe by IHG

I’m so grateful for the three months I spent at the hotel, and I miss you all. It was an unforgettable stay. Everyone on staff was kind and ready to help with anything, and breakfast was delicious with lots of choices.

I come here every year to fish and always leave happy. The room is consistently clean, and the breakfast is incredible. Laurie was so friendly and full of energy. Thanks for another peaceful, enjoyable stay. See you next year!

The breakfast area was the bright spot. The woman working there was wonderful, helped us with a high chair, and cleaned our table. The front desk staff were nice, but they didn’t seem set up to succeed by management. When we reported an accidental spill in the hallway, someone came out and said, “yeah I don’t know how you’re gonna clean this up…” We asked for a broom and cleaned it ourselves. We were more apologetic about the spill we took care of than the hotel was about our ruined weekend, and nobody offered a solution. We booked two adjoining rooms with a specific bed setup a month ahead for our family and babysitter. At check-in, we were told those weren’t the room types we’d reserved and were put on different floors. They eventually gave us rooms next to each other, but not adjoining, and still not the types we booked. It left us with an impossible sleeping arrangement. We had to buy an expensive baby monitor, and I had to skip many plans because our sitter couldn’t safely watch the kids in separate rooms. We paid for two nights but left after one because the stay was so miserable. There were broken blinds, missing towels, and dirty fixtures in both rooms. Between the two rooms, we had only four towels for a family of six. When we asked for more, they gave us hand towels and said that was all they had. There were no extra linens, and nobody offered to bring anything. We had a sleeper sofa but no blanket or pillows for it, just one pillow available. We called the desk for supplies but had to keep going back to remind them because nothing arrived, then carry things back ourselves, which wasn’t easy with three small children. Staff were pleasant, but didn’t apologize for the hassles or offer to make things right. It felt like we were left to sort out problems that were mostly theirs.

The room was spacious, and most of the amenities were in good shape. Breakfast was hot, good, and well stocked, though the orange juice concentrate ran out and took about ten minutes to be replaced. We usually like Holiday Inn Express and Suites and they rarely disappoint, so this location was a surprise. The problems were mostly small, but there were a lot of them: the self-service laundry wasn’t working, the toilet seat was broken, the shower was dirty, the hair dryer was missing, there was no body wash in the shower, and the tissue box had only three tissues.
