The view of Fort Pond is lovely, and you can walk to pretty much anywhere downtown Montauk. Those are the good points. This will be my last stay at the stone Lion Inn after three years here. The inn has always seemed like an afterthought to the restaurant, and you check in at the restaurant’s front desk. Our room wasn’t ready at check-in. The tissue box was soaking wet, probably because the counter hadn’t been wiped properly, and two ceiling lights above the counter were out. I asked for bulbs, got an email saying they’d be replaced, but days later they still weren’t. This year they assigned parking spaces by room number, but the inn still comes second to the restaurant. When I got back from the beach one evening, someone had parked in my spot. The restaurant told me they let restaurant guests use hotel spaces. Why number the spots, then? It would make more sense to leave them unnumbered if anyone can park wherever. They don’t follow through as they should. Restaurant dinner guests also spill into the private area by the guest balconies. They gather close to the balcony and can get quite loud. That isn’t the privacy you want, or the privacy you’re paying for. Sorry Stone Lion Inn, you need to manage the property better or call it a day. That’s no way to treat someone paying for a six-night stay.

The room was comfortable, with a separate bedroom and living room, and the view over Fort Pond was a million-dollar one. Staff were great, and town was an easy walk away. Couldn’t have asked for a better stay.

The rooms were okay, but the price felt high for what you get. In the morning there was nobody around when we wanted to check out and leave our luggage for a few hours. The setup is odd, and the hotel side of the business feels like an afterthought.

There’s plenty to do in Mtk Montauk. Book a room at Stone Lion, take a moment to relax, and watch the sunset over Fort pond.

A roomy place with a nice kitchenette and a great central location. The deck overlooks the pond beautifully.
