The gardens are stunning, and every kind of cottage has its own appeal. The historic ones have the most character, the glamping cottages feel like safari tents, and the newer basic cabins are modern and have what you need. I also stayed in a motel room, which was updated and cute, with a little river outside. At night I could hear frogs and crickets, then birds in the morning. The walls are thin, so if sounds bother you, I’d choose a cottage. The front desk team was so helpful and kind, they made me feel at home. I liked being just outside Carmel, less than five minutes away, with Big Sur and point lobos under ten minutes off to the right. It’s quieter than staying in town. These places aren’t luxury, but they have more character, and I hope to come back often.

We stayed in one of the cabins with a wet bar, which had everything we needed. We have two dogs, and the setting was gorgeous and worked out perfectly for them. Carmel River Inn & Cottages is a great spot if you want both the beach and the hills nearby. We’ll definitely be back.

The location made it easy to get to Carmel by the Sea, Monterey, and Big Sur. We spent two nights in a studio cottage at Carmel River Inn & Cottages and had a wonderful time. Staff were very accommodating, and they even welcomed our furry pets with treats. We’d happily return on another trip to the area.

The room heat comes from a gas fireplace, and I slept in one of the comfiest beds I can remember. The storybook cottages and carefully kept gardens were lovely, too. When I got back after sunset, the fire pit was already lit outside my cottage. Everyone I met at the front desk was incredibly welcoming. It really did feel like a second home, and I’ll be back.

I’m so glad I found this place. The cottages are each different, but all have what you need, with space, parking, and privacy for a vacation. It’s about five minutes from downtown Carmel, and the drive is scenic. Amy has been so helpful through our whole stay, she’s the best ever. I’m definitely coming back every time.
