InterContinental the Clement Monterey by IHG

We asked to shorten our stay to one night, and they thankfully agreed without charging us for the second. Then came the surprise: they said the first night was $700 and the second was $300. Instead of refunding half our stay, they charged us the full $700 for a night we hadn't even enjoyed. The problems started with a call two hours before check-in saying they might not have a room because they'd "accidentally" oversold. They sorted it out, but we'd been worried we wouldn't get a room. Then we were given two separate beds instead of the full bed we'd requested, so my wife and I had to sleep apart. The facilities were decent but seemed generally run down. The pool and tub weren't working, the yard fire pit wouldn't turn on, and the elevator lights flickered strangely. It was also very noisy. A bar downstairs played loud outdoor music, and we couldn't sleep until 11 pm. For the price, it generally wasn't worth it.

The hotel is beautiful, and the rooms were extremely clean and elegant. Service was fantastic. My only issue was the room assignment: to get there, I had to cross a bridge and then take a second elevator. Even so, the Intercontinental Monterey Bay was a great hotel, and I'll stay again.

The location is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, and the restaurant is excellent. The staff remembered us as soon as we walked in, and treated us like royalty, bringing extra pillows, blankets, robes, and slippers. The amenities are incredible. I can't say enough about this hotel, and highly recommend staying here.

The sea-front balcony made the stay unforgettable. We could sit outside listening to the waves and watching the ocean, with otters bobbing among the kelp, seals playing in the water, and even whales passing in the distance. It felt like a little nature show right outside the room. We were upgraded to that room, and it completely transformed the visit. Breakfast was a real highlight. As a Diamond member, it was included, and it felt like a genuine perk: great food, plenty of choices, and staff who looked after us each morning. The staff were friendly and welcoming throughout. The room was cozy, comfortable, and surprisingly quiet, and the location right on Cannery Row was a convenient base for exploring the whole area. We'll definitely be back.
