Courtyard Montvale

There were four of us on a work trip, and the staff brought such a good feeling to our meetings. We were really struck by how helpful and kind everyone was, from Michael, Erika, and the other gentleman at the front desk whose name I can't remember, to Stephanie the manager and Damarica in the restaurant. Service like that is rare for us. I can't thank them enough for making our stay so lovely.

Parking was plentiful, and there's a handy restaurant next door that's separate from the hotel. The service was great, especially from the guys checking guests in during the afternoon, always with a smile. Our room was clean, and the feather-free bedding really was feather-free, unlike my experience last week at the full-service Marriott at the Cincinnati airport. Rooms in the 50s or 70s are way at the back, so it's a long walk from reception. You may want to drive around back and use the stairs to get to your floor. The hotel has a lot of rooms. The breakfast was pretty good, and I liked the bowl, though I would have preferred more full-meal choices instead of mostly snack-sized options. We never tried the larger attached restaurant, but it looked busy whenever we passed it. The grounds were pretty, and the open layout reminded me of a Florida hotel. Our room was clean and nice, and being at the end of a hallway meant we didn't hear noise. We arrived around 1-something in the morning after escaping a terrible nearby hotel during ren faire week, when everything closer was booked. Even at that hour, the staff were upbeat and reassuring, and they quickly gave us one of the last rooms. I'd read comments suggesting smoke detectors were being targeted to scam guests, but we're a couple in our late 20s who might have fit that description, and nothing happened. It seems like it really could just be the equipment and luck. We'll gladly stay here again next year.

My room was full of bugs, and I killed dozens of them. On check-in tonight, the room smelled of pesticide so strongly that my eyes and throat burned. I started shaking and had trouble breathing. They moved me to a noisy room, but the damage was done, and I'm still shaking with my eyes and throat burning. They wouldn't let me out of my prepaid room. I'm a Bonvoy member, and this is how guests are treated: pay up, suck it up, and risk your health. They don't care as long as they get paid. Marriott doesn't care either. Not once did anyone offer to send someone to inspect the room.
