Red Roof Inn Morehead

We booked at the last minute because this place had rooms and decent rates. I remembered it as a Best Western from years back, and didn't realize how far downhill it had gone since becoming Red Roof Inn. Our room seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in ages. The sheets were thin and dirty, there was hair in the shower and it drained poorly, and the toilet seat looked awful. The walls had questionable red splatters, and the floor was so filthy we had to keep our shoes on. Though we'd booked a smoke-free room, it definitely smelled of smoke, and the hallways had a strange greasy chicken odor. The free breakfast was basically nonexistent. I'd spend a little more to stay somewhere else.

The noise carried on day and night, and it wasn’t only animals, which I could have understood. My room also had cockroaches and a heater that didn’t work. The place needs to take better care of its rooms. Madison at the front desk, I think, was rude, unprofessional, and not at all suited to the job. Mollie drops food and crumbs from the table onto the floor. Madison and her boyfriend were overly touchy and kept going behind the counter together while guests were waiting. I couldn’t tell what they were busy with. I wouldn’t recommend staying here, though that’s just my personal view. Pay attention to the warnings.

The room itself was clean, and the worn condition of the rest of the hotel was manageable for one night. The $100 cash deposit at check-in was the real problem. It wasn’t on my reservation confirmation or posted around the hotel, and I had to search several pages of the website to find it. They said their system couldn’t put a hold on my card. Other guests checking in on the busy weekend had the same complaint. It seems like a poor policy, and keeping several hundred dollars in cash around also puts staff in a difficult position. Jay, the manager, was nowhere to be found, while Madison vaped as she checked us in. Jacob was friendlier and tried to help, though it was hard to defend the policy. I had the cash, but I heard Madison tell some guests they could use the ATM down the road. I wouldn’t recommend this location.

I checked in with Jacob. Assistance requests often went unanswered, and I noticed little supervision at the hotel. Seeing Jacob and another staff member showing affection at the front desk also struck me as unprofessional. On several occasions, I smelled substances in the building and felt uncomfortable. These problems affected my stay, and I hope management takes care of them.
