Captain's Inn at Moss Landing

We travel a lot, and this was one of our most disappointing stays. Our Sail Away room had such dirty windows that we couldn’t get clear photos or see properly through the binoculars. The rooms felt dated and poorly kept, the sheets seemed dirty and worn, and the bed was uncomfortably high off the floor. We could see into the neighbors’ room, and they could see into ours. There was no heating or cooling, which wasn’t disclosed when we booked. The bedroom fireplace couldn’t be left on overnight, and opening the windows to cool things down meant curtains banging and blowing around all night. The bathroom window opened onto the hallway, and a passerby looked in. There’s no elevator to the second floor, and parking was confusing and inconvenient. We called with concerns, but the person we spoke with didn’t seem to care. We don’t recommend it and won’t be back.

The deck is a lovely place to sit with food or a drink and watch the sunset, and our room had a great view across the marsh. It was very clean, with nice amenities, and you can preorder wine and other items. The last time we stayed, there was an excellent breakfast. Now the kitchen just has coffee, tea, granola bars, and similar quick bites.

We chose this peaceful spot for one night before our morning whale watch tour, and were so glad we did. In the evening we watched two sea otters playing in the water, and there were binoculars available for looking out at nature. Coffee and a few quick bites were ready in the morning. The bed was comfortable, and the shower had hot water and great pressure.

We loved having wine on the deck and watching all the birds, especially the barn owls. Captains Inn is tucked into the quiet town of Moss Landing, a welcome break from the daily rush. Our Hideaway room was clean, comfortable, nicely equipped, and had a full kitchen. The owners were the real highlight, going out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. We’ll definitely be back!
