Heritage House Inn

The only area that seemed somewhat clean was the bathroom. We stayed in the back section of Heritage House Inn in Muleshoe, TX, and it was one of the worst lodging experiences we've had. It looked like renovations might be starting, but nobody should be put in that unit until major repairs are done. The window was broken, with shattered glass and a hole, and a metal spike sticking out of the bed frame cut my son's leg. There were dirty handprints on the nightshades, dust on the lamps, and food stains and other marks on the walls. The place smelled musty, like old people and neglect. The toilets filled slowly; after one clogged, staff left a plunger hanging on our door handle instead of helping. The old, stained curtains were gross, and the bedding had holes and smelled off, even though it looked somewhat clean. The carpet was old and dirty, and outside there were weeds everywhere and stray cats roaming around. We could hear every footstep and noise upstairs through the paper-thin walls. It sounded like an elephant stomping around. I don't usually write reviews, but this was filthy, unsafe, and unacceptable. We won't be back.

My room is clean, and the bed and TV are good. The rooms are big, though the place is old, and the price is right. I'm not sure about the dirty walls or weeds, lol. I was just replying to someone who said the walls and weeds were a problem.

The office staff were very friendly, and the basic room was VERY clean. I appreciated that the beds sit on platforms, so there's no need to check underneath. The pool has been filled with dirt, and there are lots of containers along the hallways and fronts of the rooms that look like work in progress, though I'm not sure that work will ever happen. It got quiet after the mum settled her five screaming kids who were trying to rile up my pups. Thankfully, there was nothing more after the first 20 minutes. The extra charge for pups is $15ea right now.

The sunset view was amazing, especially for a hotel in a small town. It's family owned, with warm staff and clean, well-appointed rooms. Amenities are limited, but that didn't take away from my stay. The attentive service and lovely decor made everything feel easy and pleasant. It exceeded what I expected, and I'd recommend it to anyone needing a place to stay in this small town. 10/10, solid 5 stars.
