We’d stayed here before without any trouble, so I booked a night for my wife and me on August 31. After checking in, we went out to get something to eat before seeing the room. The bathroom looked clean, but when my wife pulled back the covers, there was a bed bug on the sheet. We caught it on a piece of paper and showed it to the front desk. The desk manager said her manager would have to deal with our refund request the next day. We left, but couldn’t find anywhere else to stay, so we slept in our vehicle at Kroger in Myrtle Beach. Hate to say it, but we won’t stay in Mullins again.

The lobby bathroom was awful, smelling of chemicals and pot, with no hand soap, only opened bar soap and wrappers, and no paper towels. The hallways smelled like pot too, and there’s no elevator. At breakfast, everything seemed dirty or broken: the waffle makers and egg lid were broken, and there was no milk for cereal. The woman in charge stayed on her phone and got an attitude when asked to refill the waffles. Breakfast was the worst we’ve had. Our room problems started with check-in. The man was slow, seemed unsure what he was doing, and made mistakes. We had two rooms, one was fine, but the other had been assigned even though no one was supposed to be checked into it, so the door wouldn’t open. We went back down for another room. That one smelled awful, the smoke detector kept beeping and we were told to take it down, the phone didn’t work to call the desk, the door stuck and had to be pulled hard to close, and the toilet seat was broken. At checkout, the woman acted like I was bothering her and didn’t ask how our stay was. Keep moving, there are better hotels. I’ll never stay here again.

The beds were comfortable and fine, but the rest of the place was gross. I travel a lot, and this hotel is in my bottom three. The first room smelled disgusting. I only opened the door and smelled it, I didn’t check in, but was told I could get just one more room because I had checked into the first. The upstairs room smelled a little better, though it was still nasty. There’s no elevator, so those of us in our 60s had to haul our bags upstairs. I stepped in something wet on the carpet twice, then wore flip-flops for the rest of the time. Cleanliness was marginal at best.

The beds looked unwashed, and the shower seemed unsanitary, with mold and signs it hadn’t been properly cleaned between guests. There was also visible dirt on the floors, and both the fridge and the dresser it sat on were stained and nasty. The hotel’s claims about a comfortable stay didn’t match the basic cleanliness we found. A very negative experience, and I wouldn’t recommend it. I hope management takes action on these hygiene problems.

Don’t go there. It only seems to stay open because it’s the area’s only chain hotel.
