We've stayed at the Roam Inn for a few nights every February, and this year we were glad to find a continental breakfast in the gathering area. That was a new addition for us. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable. We'd already booked when we learned Tracey’s restaurant would be closed for renovations, which was a disappointment. Its food is always excellent, and it's the best place to eat in Munising.

The wine selection at Roam Inn is great, but the food quality wasn't. My husband and I were in the UP for an anniversary adventure, our 33rd, and asked the hotel for a recommendation for a nice, slightly upscale restaurant. They suggested DogPatch, and we made the wrong choice. We ordered six oysters for $31. The price wasn't the issue; what arrived was basically oyster skins. If they can't serve a decent product, they should take it off the menu. We tried DogPatch the next day and the food was excellent.

Our two nights at the ROAM Inn were peaceful and quiet, with only two other guests there during our visit while it was in inkerper mode. The rooms were new, clean, and stocked with daily accessories, bread and a toaster, plus snack bars for the morning. There were lots of local pictures of Lake Superior and the Pictured Rocks. We can't wait to bring the family back in summer.

The worst night of our week-long vacation was at the Roam Inn, though we managed to salvage the trip with a lovely last night at the Landmark Hotel in Marquette. We were disappointed by the restaurant closures, and our dinner options in Munising were poor. We ended up with a bad meal in a bad atmosphere after first finding limited fried food at a nearby casino, then another restaurant and bar that was temporarily closed, and finally a sports bar restaurant with a long wait and a rude hostess. Despite beer signs on the walls, it served no alcohol, apparently because it lost its liquor license years ago and hasn't been able to renew it. This was the last two nights of an otherwise fabulous birthday trip for my husband, and I was very upset. He is a huge foodie, so I had carefully researched the hotel about five months before our fall trip to the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore area and booked it in June, despite thinking it looked dark and dated. I chose it because online searches pointed to Tracey's as having chef-quality food, and the bar advertised craft cocktails. I wanted an upscale dining option in a small town with limited choices. The room was spacious, but the location was just so-so, and a school across the road blocked most of the water view from our suite. I received confirmation emails after booking and as the stay got closer, but only learned at check-in that the restaurant and bar had switched to fall hours and were closed Sundays and Mondays. We hadn't been told in advance. They hadn't posted it on Facebook as they had the previous year. Apparently, they started closing those two days a good six weeks earlier than in 2024. They added a note to the restaurant page after changing the hours, but it didn't occur to me to keep checking that page randomly. I asked the manager the next morning to refund the second night since we were checking out early and paying for another hotel for our final night. She agreed to refund half the charge, which I appreciated. I also asked her to consider guests who book based on advertised amenities and menus, then travel a long way at considerable expense only to find dining access has changed and no one sent a change-of-hours text or email. If we'd known, I would have canceled in advance and avoided losing money on the reservation. By the way, the Holiday Inn Express in Munising looks nice, new, clean, modern, right on the water, and includes a hot breakfast, for far less than the Roam Inn. Sharing this heads-up about unpredictable restaurant hours in hopes others can avoid our mistake.

The rooms were fantastic, big and clean, and the beds were really comfortable, which made the stay a pleasure. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the on-site restaurant is worth a visit while you're in Munising. It costs a little more, but felt like a nicer choice than some of the other hotels in town. The location is almost perfect, though a little too far to walk into town. It's only a short drive.
