The response from Anderson Ocean Club Hotel & Spa was just a 20% discount and complimentary valet parking after I reported the mold. For a health and sanitation issue, that felt dismissive and inadequate, like they were minimizing it with a small discount. I expected an immediate room change or a much more serious effort to fix things. Seeing visible mold as soon as we entered made me question the property's cleanliness and safety standards, especially because I was traveling with my two-year-old, for whom mold can pose serious health risks. This is a resort and spa, and that condition was unacceptable. Cleanliness and guest safety should be top priorities, but this stay fell far below expectations. I've attached a photo of what we found, and I'm extremely disappointed.
The 19th floor balcony had a great view over plenty of blue water, with two chairs and a small table, and room for more seating. My Ocean View One Bedroom King Suite at Anderson Ocean Club was quiet even in the off-season, and I barely heard noise from other floors. Everyone I passed, from housekeeping to maintenance, said hello and asked how I was. I enjoyed my stay and would return, though I'd give it a strong 4.5 rather than all five stars. The spacious bedroom had a comfortable king bed, good lighting, and a large closet with hangers, a safe, and an ironing board. The bathroom was clean and bright, with full size pump bottles of brand name shampoo, conditioner, shower gel, and lotion. Hot water came right away, the pressure was fantastic even on the 19th floor, and the showerhead had several settings. A hair dryer was in the drawer. The living area had a dining table, couch, chair, coffee table, side table, and a large TV with a DVD player. There's also a laundry closet with a washer, dryer, and enough detergent for a couple loads, a big plus for a longer visit. The kitchen had a full size fridge, range, small dishwasher, coffee maker, and basic cookware and dishes. There weren't four of everything, the microwave had power but wouldn't heat or turn the plate, and a few kitchen towels and a drying rack would've been nice. I reported the microwave at checkout. I didn't try the gym, pools, or restaurant options, so I can't comment on those. Check-in took only a few minutes. The team member who helped was friendly and professional, made small talk, and worked with another coworker to get me settled quickly. When I saw the same staff the next afternoon, they were just as pleasant and made me feel valued. Unloading spaces are clearly marked, but I was surprised to have to wait for a luggage cart in the off-season when there didn't seem to be many arrivals. It was quicker to make a couple trips on my own. Checkout was fine, but the morning crew wasn't as warm as the check-in staff. I mentioned that an elevator wouldn't go to the 19th floor and that the microwave wasn't working. They were polite but didn't seem very motivated to get those things addressed. The covered parking garage is across the street, which was fine since you can unload at the resort first. Valet is available for a fee.
The resort is in a great spot, close enough to walk to lots of places. We had a spacious, clean room with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, and a living area. I was won over by the fresh, clean smell when we arrived, and the room smelled just as nice. The gentleman who greeted us downstairs and helped with luggage was friendly and professional. Staff handled all our requests promptly and professionally. I'd definitely recommend it and stay again.
The shower wouldn't turn off. They sent someone after my second call, and he fixed it, but then there was no hot water. I also couldn't get anyone on the phone when I called for fresh towels. I went to the front desk, and instead of apologizing, she said, "well that interesting." At check-in I asked for a higher floor, but was told they only had a room on the second floor, which was fine because I hadn't asked to move up. I should've stayed at the Enclave like we usually do.
The good parts were being right on the beach, friendly staff, and a spa on site. There's mini golf right across the street, too. I was put in this fourth-floor room for a timeshare presentation, and there wasn't anything special about it. It felt like a franchise Holiday Inn, with somewhat dated furniture and a room that needed touch-ups. The Wi-Fi was terrible. The valet area is tight, and Ubers had trouble getting in and out because staff were telling guests to park in the through lane.
