Courtyard by Marriott Myrtle Beach Broadway

The location is convenient for the convention center, and the staff were polite, but they had no solution when the hot water ran out. They said maintenance would come the next morning, but wouldn’t let us out of the rest of our reservation to go somewhere with warm water. There was no compensation, just “it happens.” The front desk said to leave the water running longer, which didn’t help. Staff told me this is a common issue when the hotel is full. Per SC DHEC, hotels are supposed to have warm water. If they can’t, they need to lower what counts as capacity.

For me, the biggest problems were how dirty and run-down the room was. The beds were clean, but the floor and tables had crumbs, dirt, and other stuck-on debris. The Bible had some kind of mold growing on it. The mini fridge and wall thermostat were broken, the three small pillows were lousy, and the balcony door was in bad shape. The bathroom clearly hadn’t been renovated: dirty toilet seat, some mold in the shower, a very worn curtain, and a rod coming away from the wall. The rod sloped, so the curtain kept sliding down. The room may look nice in the pictures, but it doesn’t match reality. They claim a 2022 renovation, but there’s no way the whole room was redone. On arrival, it was pleasant unloading bags below someone smoking on the balcony above. When I asked about complimentary water, I was told to use the fountain, and that they used to offer water but no longer did. There are plenty of other hotels nearby, including other Marriotts. I can’t recommend this place, or the Courtyard name attached to it.

We had free parking, a good price, and a nice area. Broadway at the Beach and other convenient spots were only a couple of minutes away. My complaints were small things: the bed and little pillows weren’t very comfortable, and my room was right across from the ice machine. I couldn’t believe how many people wanted ice late at night, and it got a little annoying. Still, an okay stay.

The room was musty, though not moldy or dirty. Also, across the big parking lot is The Broadway. The hotel uses a movement sensor to control the AC condenser, so if nobody moves around in the room, it shuts off. That means your temperature setting doesn’t really matter while you’re out for the day or asleep. Housekeeping was poor. We got service only one day out of four, and all they did was roll the sheets back up. No fresh soap or hand towels. The front desk managers sorted it out for us. I hope they bring back the small shampoo bottles instead of the refillable wall-mounted shampoo and body wash. It’s a three-star hotel.
