After checkout, I realized I’d left my credit card at the pool bar and feared it had been lost or stolen. The resort had already found it, secured it, and called me to say it was waiting at the front desk. Since I was no longer nearby, the staff immediately started helping me figure out how to get it back. They could have simply left it in lost and found, but instead took the initiative to contact me and protect my card. That care says a lot about the people there. It was a small moment, but it stayed with me and reflected the professionalism, integrity, and guest-first attitude we experienced throughout the stay.

The room itself wasn’t the main problem. We arrived a little before check-in with our young child and were told a 14th-floor room would be available if we waited. We wanted a higher floor, so we agreed to be patient. About an hour later, they offered us a room on the 7th floor right away, but we declined because we’d been assured the 14th-floor room would be ready soon. After another two hours in the lobby, we were told that room had been given to other guests. We were assigned the same 7th-floor room we’d turned down earlier. No meaningful apology or offer to make up for the lost time followed. Mistakes and changing plans happen, and guests can understand that. What was hard to accept was being asked to wait for hours based on a promise that was then ignored, with no accountability or concern for our experience. We lost several hours of vacation and ended up where we could have been three hours earlier. Waiting that long with a child made it especially frustrating. The stay wasn’t ruined by the hotel itself so much as by the staff’s indifference. We left feeling that guest comfort, communication, and keeping promises weren’t priorities there.

We thought we were upgrading from the Hampton Inn and Suites in Myrtle Beach when we came to the Hilton for a basketball tournament. We were very wrong. Hampton was 100 times better than this junky place. The air in our room barely worked, the pool was crappy, the parking was far away, and the workers were rude. We couldn’t even get a luggage cart to handle our own bags. That alone was enough to make us want to leave. We checked in at 3:30 and were gone by 8. Literally the worst hotel we’ve ever stayed in.

LORI was the one bright spot for hospitality. The rooms were good for a beachfront hotel, but most of the other staff weren’t friendly. I’ve stayed at many Hiltons, and this was the first where they kept the luggage carts from guests. You have to use the bell staff to take your bags up, even if you’re perfectly capable of doing it yourself. They said they wouldn’t loan carts because guests might not return them. Other Hiltons seem to manage, and if getting carts back is the concern, staff could collect them or ask guests to return them. The bell staff were very rude. I understand they want to earn money, but guests shouldn’t have to use a service they don’t want. At the pool, the towel attendants acted annoyed when we interrupted their conversation to ask how to find the lazy river among the three or four pools. We weren’t even asking for towels, just directions, but they treated us like we were stupid. We ended up at the heated pool at Embassy Suites and got much better service there. The coffee shop employees were friendly enough, though very slow. Expect a 15-20 minute wait in line for coffee. I’m only a Gold Hilton Honors guest, but this was the worst Hilton I’ve stayed at. I usually choose Hiltons because I like their customer service, and this fell well short of that standard.

The view was lovely, and I liked the shower. The bathroom was nice but small. The room condition could have been better, especially the carpet, which felt kind of icky. Since I was there for business, it bothered me less than it would have on a personal trip, given the price.
