Holiday Inn Express Myrtle Beach-Broadway at the Beach by IHG

Breakfast can be a challenge in a hotel lobby, with things running out, queues at the waffle or pancake maker, and food that's not hot or ready. Joy kept on top of all of it. She checked in with every table, anticipated problems, and was pleasant and engaging. Even while talking with guests, she was clearing and cleaning; when she wasn't serving people, she was still tidying. Joy was a joy, bad dad pun intended. I felt like I was eating at a restaurant. IHG should keep her, she makes a difference for people who travel as much as we do. This review is specifically about an employee at this location. I usually stay at H.I.Express because the amenities suit the price and my needs. They handle things when an issue comes up, and I have no complaints about the location.

The breakfast hosts kept the area clean and stocked, and there are restaurants and bars right next door. I stayed for a full week for work and the staff were outstanding. I was warmly greeted every time I came in or went out, and their professionalism matched what I've experienced at many higher-end hotels. The property is being renovated, so it should get even better.

The hotel isn't beachfront, but there are plenty of attractions close by. Staff were welcoming and very friendly, the rooms were clean, and the amenities were well stocked.

The main problem was how dirty the floor seemed. The room looked clean when I arrived, but after walking around in socks for about 20 minutes while getting ready for bed, the bottoms were black. Since it was my first night and I'd hardly been in the room, I don't think I brought in that much dirt. It made me wonder if the floors were cleaned between guests, and how well the rest of the room had been cleaned. I wanted housekeeping to wipe it so I wouldn't ruin more socks, but there was no room phone, and I didn't want to go down to the lobby in pajamas. When I passed through during the day, the desk was either empty or had a line, so I never asked. The staff weren't especially friendly, though I had no problems with them. The hotel is about 1.5 miles from the beach, a bit far to walk, but fair for the price.
