We had a private Air B&B at the Sand Dune Resort for six days. The unit was very clean, decorated in a modern style, and had all the amenities we needed. The beach views were lovely, with both sunrises and sunsets to enjoy. We also had a relaxing vacation as a family. The resort itself needs major remodeling. There were rusty spots and ceiling leaks when it rained, and some windows by the entry doors were cracked. The elevators were old but dependable. Parking was free, though spaces could be limited when we got back late. Front desk staff were just okay, but we didn't need much since we were in a private unit. The restaurant staff, DeonDre, Chelsea, and Charmaine, were great, and the food was good. The outdoor pools and lazy river were fine, though we didn't try the indoor pool. The convenience store had just about everything, from eggs and souvenirs to beach toys, drinks for adults, and medicine. We probably won't return unless the resort makes major upgrades.

The room's poor cleanliness was the biggest problem. It was clearly not properly cleaned before we arrived, and we encountered pests during our stay, which made us uncomfortable. Calling this a “4-star hotel” felt misleading given the property's condition. Check-in took an extremely long time, and the front desk staff weren't welcoming, so the stay got off to a bad start. We had arrived late at night after a long drive and a busy day of activities, and I was traveling with my daughter. We were exhausted and felt stuck staying the night. Otherwise, I would have checked out right away and gone somewhere else. For what we paid, I expected somewhere clean, safe, and properly maintained. This was a very disappointing stay, and I wouldn't recommend the Sand Dunes Hotel in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina unless they make major improvements to service, cleanliness, and pest control.

The kids especially loved all the different pools, and we liked being able to watch them swim with the ocean in view. We stayed in a clean three-bedroom, two-bathroom unit with beautiful views and plenty of parking. Getting around by car was easy, and the food on site was good. The bar made great drinks, and we really liked shark bite! We've tried a few resorts, and this one is our favorite because there's something for everyone. We had a wonderful stay, and the kids can't wait to return.

Getting clean towels was a problem: the bath towels were dirty, and the only clean ones were the hand towels, so both of us had to use those after showering. The tub also felt soft, sunken, and unstable underfoot, like it might collapse while I was showering. They didn't provide toothpaste, and the soap smelled so bad it felt like washing with vegetable or canola oil. We were there for two days with a friend, and it was the worst hotel or resort stay of my life. We'd booked a room with two queen beds and a kitchen, but the first room had a cockroach in the kitchen. After we complained, they moved us just two doors down, which didn't feel like much of an improvement. If you want somewhere that feels more like a dumpster than a resort, this might suit you. Otherwise, save your money and book somewhere else. I would never recommend Sand Dunes Resort and won't stay there again.

The location made it easy to get to the beach, and the lazy river was relaxing. There were also restaurants within walking distance, so it was convenient to enjoy the beach. Still, it felt overpriced for what we got. Check-in was confusing, and staff weren't much help. Our room was dirty and dated, and the cable didn't work. I witnessed four incidents on the waterpark slides. There was a lifeguard at the bottom, but kids weren't waiting for the previous riders to get off before sliding down, and multiple injuries were happening.
