Palms by the Beach Motel

The location was great, just across the street from the ocean, and the woman at check-in was nice. Everything else was a problem. We got only one towel and one washcloth, and there was no room cleaning. The pool looked like it wasn't cleaned often. It was so loud that we couldn't sleep. A woman was yelling outside at midnight, and a man knocked on our door looking for his “white friend.” The room diagonally across from ours seemed to be involved in prostitution or drugs, though I can't say for sure. Do not stay here.

The beach is an easy walk from here, and we had no trouble getting there. The pool was nice and felt family friendly. The Wi-Fi worked fine, and the room was very clean compared with rooms I've had at other hotels. The staff were polite and really great to deal with, and they gave me a good rate on the room. I'd recommend this place to friends and family.

The woman who looked after us on the first day was wonderful. It was a really hot week, and the front room had no air conditioning. The unit in the back room worked great, and they brought me a fan for the front room, which helped a little.

We finally left after spotting another roach when we came back that night. My partner and I had agreed that if we saw one more bug, I wasn't sleeping there. A baby roach ran across the floor, so I started moving our things to the car right away. I wasn't going to sleep with roaches for $300. When we left, I wanted to tell the office about the new bugs, but nobody was there and it was closed. The room already smelled bad when we arrived, and looking around only made it worse. The towels were stained, someone else's hair was in the shower, there was food under the bed, the refrigerator was dirty, and we found two dead bugs, before I saw the live roach later that night. Ten minutes after checking in, I went down to report the dirt and bugs and ask for a refund. The woman said they couldn't refund an online booking and offered to have the room cleaned. That didn't make sense to me, since the dead bugs, food, and dirty shower should all have been dealt with before we got there. We didn't want to ruin the family's day, so we left for the beach and boardwalk. The pool had trash in it too. My kids wanted to swim, but I wouldn't let them because it looked as dirty as the rooms. This place is cheap because it's filthy and has roaches. I almost slept there, but after seeing one, I packed up my family and left. Hard pass.
