Roxanne Towers

Right on the beach, with an awesome location. The rooms were clean, and the people at the desk were very nice.

The hotel is in a good location and the staff were friendly, but the room problems made this a bad stay. On its first use, the toilet overflowed. Maintenance fixed it quickly, but it was still unexpected. That first night we opened the pullout couch and found the topper hadn't been cleaned after the previous guest. It smelled like urine and had hair and food on it. The mattress underneath smelled of urine too. Since it was nighttime, maintenance couldn't come until morning, and it took some effort to get the whole mattress replaced, though eventually they did. The balcony glass was covered in handprints and clearly hadn't been cleaned in quite a while. There was also mold on the living room ceiling, which I expected at a coastal property. Smoking is allowed on the balcony, so whenever we went outside there was a strong smell of marijuana or smoke. Keep that in mind if you have children or asthma.

We've come to treasure Roxanne Tower, and our annual Myrtle Beach work retreat wouldn't feel the same without staying here and adding a few extra nights. The location works especially well without a car: we can walk just about anywhere, and there's a grocery store one block away. Every room has a beautiful ocean view, and the rooms are clean and well maintained. I've seen nearby places that aren't cared for well, but Roxanne staff clean daily, and it shows. Everyone we've met over the years has been personable, kind, and helpful. Geoff remembers us every year, and Britney and Barbara gave us particular help this year. We love the hot tub and lazy river when we're away from the beach, and the indoor pool is handy on drizzly days. The two-bedroom units are our favorite because they have two bathrooms. This year we stayed in a one-bedroom with our friend, and the Murphy bed was comfortable and convenient. It's a hidden treasure for the price, and we'll be back for years.

A basic, clean place much like a Motel 6, but its beach location at the end of the Boardwalk is excellent. Shops, food, and drinks are all within walking distance, and the suites face the ocean with direct beach access. You can rent an umbrella and chairs from a vendor on the beach or bring your own. They also sell ice cheaply to guests. Parking is first come, not assigned by unit. There's limited covered parking under the building and uncovered spaces in front, but no check-in driveway. You have to pull in and turn around or back out of the small lot, which is usually full. There's plenty of public parking right across the street. A few luggage carts are available and very helpful. You can hear sounds easily from neighboring rooms and hallways. Amenities are a small covered pool and hot tub, a fairly small outdoor pool, and a small lazy river. Good for families, less so for adults without kids.
