We picked the Savoy over the main part of the Grande Cayman because it had private parking, a private pool, and a smaller building, and it was close to where my son's team was staying. I can't help feeling deceived. We paid more for those features, and several of them weren't available, with no warning before arrival. I've had hotels contact me ahead of time about maintenance or unavailable amenities so I could decide whether to stay. Nobody told us, and we got no progress updates while we were there. At check-in, we learned the elevator wasn't working. We were on the fifth floor, and my son was on crutches after major knee surgery in February. The manager said she'd keep us informed and adjust the room cost, and she followed through: the elevator was fixed by the end of the day and she processed the adjustment. I thought things were sorted, but the pool had been closed since Wednesday when I wrote this on Sunday. I called Thursday and was told they'd check with maintenance and call back, but nobody did. Work went on Wednesday through Friday, with loud, constant noise that made afternoon naps after the beach difficult. Yellow tape blocked the parking lot, so we couldn't get in or out, which was a problem getting to and from baseball games. Our TV also hadn't worked for three days after I called and was told a ticket would be filed. My wife had to contact the virtual assistant three times for a trach pickup. There were good points too. Janel, the manager, credited us for the issue she knew about. The view was amazing, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchens had older but functional appliances for making some meals in. The showers had good pressure and hot water. The people staffing the gift shop and pool bars at the main resort were kind, and the prices and choices were reasonable. With no pool and the car blocked in, being able to watch TV would have helped, especially during March Madness. They could have sent maintenance or replaced the TV, but the issue was ignored after we'd already been given inferior accommodations. This wasn't my worst hotel stay, but it's in my bottom three. I spoke with all the families on my son's baseball team, and two had major problems. They got new rooms at another complex or a very deep discount. There are plenty of other choices in Myrtle Beach. Find somewhere besides the Savoy, and since Grande Cayman runs it, stay away from them too.
