Serendipity Inn

The rooms are a little dated, but they’re very roomy and priced just right. Check-in felt rushed, though the staff were still friendly, and the towels missing from our room were brought over quickly. Parking was awful, and we couldn’t get in a late swim because the pool closes at 10. I didn’t get up for breakfast, but my husband said it was good. The outside is absolutely gorgeous, the location is perfect, and we didn’t have many other issues. I definitely plan to stay here again.

The photos made this place look charming, but once I arrived and looked around, I was disappointed. The pool was dirty green with leaves floating in it, and the furniture in the room was falling apart despite what looked like an attempt to update it. I lifted the fresh-looking sheets and found hair underneath, so I didn’t feel the linens had been changed. I couldn’t leave my wife and kids here, and asked the woman at the desk to cancel. She said I had to contact the booking service. I explained the problems to her and another employee, who apologized and said they were waiting for the pool person. The woman remarked that this was why they didn’t charge $300 or $400 like other hotels nearby. Booking.com said the person they spoke with claimed the pool was cleaned daily and the beds changed after each night, but I was still charged a $98 cancellation fee. I hope that was worth it. Don’t stay at this run-down little money pit. The pool might be okay for ducks, but not for children.

We found a side-by-side, two-room setup for our two-night stay, which worked perfectly with older teens. The rooms were clean and so nice they felt like a brand-new studio apartment nobody had used. The pool was clean, and the community space had that home-away-from-home feel. It’s in a quiet spot, not far from the beach, with a Starbucks nearby.

We were vacationing in a nearby town and wanted to see Myrtle Beach on the way home, since I’d never been. I found this cute place for under $100 and booked, then nearly changed my mind after reading the reviews. I’m glad I checked it out for myself. It’s adorable, quaint, and quiet, perfect for a quick stay. The beach and Ocean Drive are a five-minute walk away, and there’s a breakfast place and bar restaurant just 30 seconds away on foot. We walked over for a cocktail after checking in. The woman at the front was super sweet, and the only noise I heard in the morning was birds chirping. They even have cool square toilets! For under $100 a night, Serendipity Inn is a hidden gem if you want somewhere low-key instead of a dirty high-rise. Parking wasn’t a problem. Sometimes it pays to see for yourself instead of going by someone else’s review.
