We’ve stayed here four times now. You won’t find a hotel with better hot water, and the people have always treated us well.

For $45 a night, this was the best stay we’ve had for the price, and we’ll come back. The room was super comfortable, and the staff were friendly, accommodating, and quirky in a fun, playful way. The lobby looks very nice, though it smelled of cigarettes. There are indoor and outdoor pools, a jacuzzi that wasn’t on while we were there, a laundry room, a business center, and an evening restaurant next door. You can hear hallway conversations, though I don’t know how loudly those people were talking. There were a couple of carpet stains, but they didn’t make the room feel dirty. I think any room problems are probably down to previous guests. The morning after people had been “partying,” I saw trash they’d left in the halls. I’ve stayed at plenty of hotels around Lufkin/Nacogdoches, and some charge more while offering bad service or rooms with broken doors and unplugged smoke detectors.

The room was a very different story from the decent-looking lobby. There were stains across the carpet, on the upholstered chair, and a big bright pink one on the comforter. It made me wonder whether the bedding had been washed after the previous guests, since that stain could easily have been bleached. The bed itself was okay, and I rested all night. No bed bugs. The toilet wouldn’t flush, and I found a baby pacifier under the bed that wasn’t mine. We paid more than $90, and I’ve seen $50 motel rooms look better. Dirty floors and bedding, plus a toilet that won’t flush, are things that should always be decent. The staff were nice and respectful. I hate leaving a bad review, but I feel I should warn people.

If all you need is a cheap place to sleep, it’s not bad. If cleanliness matters, this isn’t the place. The carpets are dirty, the bathroom ceiling has mildew, and the tissue dispenser is rusty. It feels shabby and run down, and there’s no elevator, so expect to carry bags upstairs if you’re on the second floor. At check-in we were told a first-floor room was available and given a key, but once inside we saw someone’s belongings and realized it was occupied. The desk gave us an upstairs room instead. Its door was ajar when we arrived, though no one was inside. They said housekeeping must not have shut it.

Thanks to Priceline, my second night cost just $36, so I can’t complain too much. Still, the jacuzzi was dirty, switched off, and ice cold, and the carpets were dirty too. There didn’t seem to be much staff around, and I could hardly ever find anyone at the front desk. Towels were hard to get because things felt disorganized. The bed was clean, luckily, but I wouldn’t walk barefoot here, it needs a deep clean. All the toilets in the downstairs public restroom were clogged, and the laundry machine was out of order. I’ve stayed in worse places for three times the price, though.
