Blue Heron Motel

The rooms are pretty average and matched the photos, but we had a lovely stay with our toddlers. The location and view were great, and we had no trouble getting extra towels. There are two outdoor pools, an indoor pool, and a hot tub, all very nice. The third-floor stairs were quite a workout, though the view made up for it, and they had a little luggage lift to get bags upstairs. We first came last year over the Fourth of July and loved it enough to book again for this year.

The owners are helpful and flexible, and the rooms are genuinely clean, with no bugs, smoke, or odd smells. All the rooms face the beach, and there's an indoor pool and hot tub too. Some rooms have kitchens, so you can pick up groceries locally and cook. We come back once or twice a year. The Blue Heron is just a great place to stay.

The location was great, and having a kitchen and balcony was convenient. The bed was a good size. The indoor pool and hot tub were nice amenities, though that area was dark. The bathroom felt cramped and had no walk-in shower. There isn't an elevator or an accessibility ramp to the upper floors, and the old stairs need repairs. Sand got tracked into the room, so rugs would help; the balcony chairs were sandy or dirty, and the storm door screen was torn. There were pots and plates but no silverware or glasses, and the room could have been cleaner.

We were charged $35 a day for the pet fee, or $245 for the week, even though the website listed $125 for a week. Someone at the front desk later said they'd refund the difference, then that night the refunded amount was charged again. There was no one at the desk when we arrived at 6 pm, and we were directed to check in through a robot kiosk, so I had to call someone. During our week, no one did housekeeping or replenished towels and toilet paper. We eventually found supplies in a lobby cabinet, but nobody had told us, and apparently delivery to the room cost extra. I also got an ear infection from the hot tub. The place is cheap and well located, but the staff were lazy and shady. The Sea Foam Motel just up the beach is much better and more professional.
