Fairfield Inn & Suites Nashville Downtown/The Gulch

The rooftop deck looks nice, but there's nothing especially memorable about it. The bathrooms have tubs with plastic surrounds, and breakfast was terrible. I don't understand how the hotel got the reviews it has; it's mediocre at best. Walking to Broadway takes you through areas that felt sketchy to me, and I wouldn't want to walk there after dark.

The rooftop bar had a cool feel to it. The view was nice from inside, but the outside patio had a much better atmosphere and a remarkable view. Our room was very clean and had plenty of pillows and amenities, and the staff were friendly and courteous.

The location is excellent, and the parking is convenient, though some people may find it expensive. It seemed average for metro Nashville. The service and room, though, were an F. Before we arrived, I sent a couple of questions through the app and got one-word replies that didn't answer them. At check-in, the front desk employee seemed more interested in the podcast playing in both AirPods than in guests. He didn't mention breakfast, so I didn't even realize it was free, and he got upset when I asked about parking, even though I was fine paying. The beds were comfortable, but the room was beat up: the floor was very dirty, the remote didn't work, bathroom flooring was loose in several places, and the shower was dirty in the corners and on the walls. I hate leaving a review like this, but don't let the good reviews fool you.

The mattress had deep-feeling dips on both sides of the bed. It seemed very old or poorly maintained. When I arrived, the front desk was empty because the staff member was smoking outside. I had to knock on the manager's door before anyone came.
