The entrance gives a welcoming first impression, but the rest of the hotel feels neglected and dated. Our room was dark and not clean, and the loveseat sleeper smelled moldy. A problem with the tub and shower took hours to sort out, and fresh towels weren’t provided daily. The breakfast attendant was the one friendly staff member we encountered. This may sound harsh, but after paying good money for a room, I expected more.

We were grateful to have a refuge during a really bad ice storm, especially with two big dogs who were welcome. The room was around $100 a night, even though the city was packed with people needing a place after losing electricity. Our king bed was comfortable, the TV had plenty of channels, and breakfast was included and generous. Tammy, the breakfast goddess, kept everything clean and stocked. There was coffee and tea around the clock, and the workers were great, with cheerful housekeeping in particular. Lots of restaurants are nearby, and there’s a big park close by too. I’d highly recommend staying here.

I left after spending just an hour in the room. The shower had stains of some kind, the sheets had several stains, and then I saw roaches crawling out of the mattresses. I wasn’t staying after that. The hotel looks very old and needs an upgrade. The front desk people were helpful when I raised the problems and said I didn’t want to stay, but nobody apologized. They just said, “Ok.” I expected at least a decent stay because this is a Hilton chain, but it was anything but. Save your time and money and don’t book here.

Centennial Sportsplex is only a 4-5 minute walk away, which was the one bright spot. Otherwise, I won’t stay here again. Parking costs $35 a night, or $6 for 2 hours and $16 for 5 hours. The desk clerk with braids was mean mugging people, didn’t say anything, and just stared. At around 10 pm there was only one washcloth and one towel for us, even though my son also needed a shower before his early hockey game. Luckily, I pack extra towels and washcloths for problems like this. The fridge kept our things cool, but not cold. Breakfast was a joke: a stranger in the elevator had already warned me about how lacking it was. They had eggs, sausage, potatoes, cereal, and bagels, but no bacon, biscuits and gravy, or yogurt. There wasn’t enough for 20 people, let alone two hockey teams, their families, and the other guests. After paying $35 to park, you’d expect a good, plentiful breakfast. This place deserves zero stars.

We had a king room with a pullout sofa, plenty of pillows, and the most comfortable bed I’ve ever slept on in a motel. The location worked well for downtown, music row, and Vanderbilt hospital. Breakfast runs from 6-10, and the eggs, smoked sausage, potatoes, fresh bagels, and strong hot coffee were good. I tried the four mini waffles from the iron that makes them, and they were great. There’s also a single waffle iron. The girl started clearing things around 9, which I don’t think she should do while breakfast is still on. Biscuits and gravy would have been nice, and bacon or pastries too, but you can’t have everything.
