Residence Inn Nashville Downtown/Convention Center

The team made a miserable snowstorm and power outage much easier to get through. When I explained at check-in why I was there, they gave me the special rate. My kids could borrow games, and there were toys the little ones could keep. The lobby was open and welcoming, somewhere to spend time outside the rooms when it was too cold to go out. I didn’t know I’d need three nights when I arrived. Each day, while we still had no power at home, they helped with a late checkout and booking another night. Staff were short-handed, and may have been dealing with the same power problems and displacement at home, but everyone I met, from the desk and bar to the restaurant and housekeeping, was kind, supportive, and helpful. They really understood how stressful it was for those of us displaced. The hotel is also well located near Broadway downtown for a regular visit to Nashville. The pool looked nice, though it was closed because the patio was covered in ice. A special thank you to the late afternoon and early evening manager I spoke with most. I’d stay again in a heartbeat. Thanks, AC, for making a bad storm more bearable.

The only real plus for us was the convenient location. I rarely leave a negative review, but this stay was disappointing. We left a Carhartt vest in the room and called about 20 minutes after checkout. Staff and then a manager both refused to go retrieve it. They said we had to submit the online lost-and-found form and wait until after cleaning, assuring us found items were turned in. Later we were told nothing had been found. The vest was clearly left there, and it was stolen. The floors weren’t clean when we looked closely, despite the room seeming nice at first. There were gross things. The room has entirely hard flooring, and you can hear every word in the hallway, though hallway noise doesn’t carry much once you’re inside. The TV only worked briefly before showing an error, and it never worked properly over our four days. The music function was also broken, which was a letdown since we love music and this is Nashville. We asked for extra pillows twice because the first request at check-in was forgotten.

I ended up here because I needed a place, and it turned out to be a happy accident. The rooms were clean and nice, and the views were great. Gabriela at the desk was outstanding and went out of her way to help. There are restaurants and things to do nearby, and the location is great. Take a look at the rooftop bar and the scenery from the 21st floor.

We really didn’t like the property and moved to the Westin, where the rooms had much more character and felt far nicer, and where we felt our business mattered. Here, the rooms felt dull, the lobby on the 6th floor was odd, and the signature scent in the common areas was unpleasant, especially if you’re sensitive to synthetic fragrance. For the price and Marriott name, everything came up short. Staff service was poor, and getting them to answer the phone or give accurate information was a struggle.
