There’s a fun little bar on the way to the rooms, and I’ve added it to my Nashville spots. They had stand-up comedy on another visit, and it was pretty hilarious. I’d recommend it for an adults-only stay or just a fun bar if Broadway crowds aren’t your thing. I love The Dive Motel, but a TV was the one thing I missed. Some modern technology might’ve made us want to spend more time on site. The themed rooms and bedside offerings also mean I wouldn’t bring children here.
This was my first time staying here, though I’ve been coming for years for the bar and seasonal pool pass. After this disaster, I may stop. The room was the Rumors suite, and while taking birthday photos with our phones, my friends and I got sharp pains. After only two hours, we pulled little shards of glass from our hands and feet. I realized they were coming from the fibrotic lamps. I told the front desk and asked to switch to another king suite, but they offered only lower-value rooms or to sweep. I asked them to remove the lamps instead. They left a lot of rust and some odd fluid on the nightstands, so it didn’t feel safe to put anything there. There were also a lot of rules and fees, and my guests were hurt. Several friends went into the bar just before or a moment or two after 10 to look at one photo and close their tabs, and one staff member literally yelled at them. This isn’t how the bartenders or most of the staff usually are, they’ve always been friendly and helpful. I appreciated the man who sat with us on his break, was kind to everyone, and joined the conversation. The hotel wanted $1,500 for a small photoshoot in the room. We used our phones instead, which unfortunately took work away from a local photographer. The room wasn’t worth its price, let alone spending $2,000 in one day. If I could have canceled and tipped the bartenders $350 instead, I would have.
As someone local who used to come here often, I’ve watched this place go downhill. On my final visit this past weekend, there was glass all over the room floor, and we cut our feet on it before we even knew it was there. The room was dirty, smelled moldy, and had strange dark brown stains on both bedside tables that looked like spilled maple syrup. Staff rudely dismissed us when we reported the mess and glass, then told us to leave the lobby because it was closed at 10:02 pm on a Saturday. After checkout, they charged an extra $100 for scuff marks that were already there when we arrived, plus blood on the floor. I wonder how that got there, maybe from the glass left all over the room? I’ll never return. I’m telling my friends in music, DJing, and photography not to come back, and telling family and friends to stop buying summer pool passes. Hope that $100 was worth it.
The retro feel made for a great stay, and the old-style radios in every room are a really cool touch. The bar has a great atmosphere and a nice pool. Two suites up the hill look out over the pool and property. Definitely a place for adults traveling or for locals. We’ll be back.
It’s a nice little boutique hotel without a lot of extras. The bar staff are always so sweet, and the person who checked me in was great too. I got to hang out for one of the kitschy movie nights and watch Night of the Lepus.
