For the price, I got better room quality and service than I expected. Hayes Street was spotless, the front desk staff were polite and efficient, and I didn’t see any holes or obvious stains in the carpet. That was a welcome change from some Courtyard by Marriott and Hilton DoubleTree places I’ve stayed at before. I’d recommend it if you want somewhere clean and affordable.
The room was clean and the bed comfortable, and there’s a quick walk to restaurants, a coffee shop, and DG. The bus stop is around the corner, and Lyft to the good hall and Ryman is very affordable. Breakfast had a good selection: waffles, eggs, sausage, pastries, bagels, oatmeal, cereal, coffee, yogurt, apples, and bananas. The lobby has several seating areas, and the fitness room isn’t large but is nicely equipped and put together.
I’ve stayed here while traveling for over three or four years, and for the past two years I’ve recommended it because the staff have always been so accommodating. Everyone has usually been helpful when plans go wrong, which is why I come back. But one bad attitude can really hurt a business. There’s a new Hispanic woman who sometimes works the afternoon front desk, and she’s rude. She talks as if guests are asking her for a favor just by staying there. She isn’t accommodating, and dealing with her adds stress to my stay. She talks down the helpfulness of her coworkers, even though she doesn’t go the extra mile they do. Customer service is her job; guests shouldn’t be treated like they’re asking for favors. If she doesn’t want to help people, she should get out of that field.
The fitness room is tiny, and the bathtub is very shallow. There’s an ice bucket in the room, but no ice on the individual floors, and I couldn’t find anywhere to get it. There aren’t vending machines either. You can buy drinks and snacks in the lobby, but bottled drinks cost $4. Parking in the deck is $45 a night.
The rooms were clean and in good condition, and the hotel itself was nice. Breakfast was okay, though the choices were a bit limited. The bigger disappointment was the staff, especially the young man at reception in the evening. When we checked in, he was rude and abrasive and seemed like he couldn’t be bothered. Also, there’s a $50 deposit for every night of your stay. That wasn’t clear when we booked, so make sure you have the money for it.
