The Yellowwood

The setup is cool and has a lot of potential, but our stay in Unit 10 was rough. We arrived in November to find the room at 61 degrees with the fan running. The heater didn't work properly, and no one was around to ask about it. We saw no staff during our two days there; we were just emailed entry codes. The hot tub was cold and risky to get in and out of because it had no handle and sat on a slope, with no rug on the slippery tile when you stepped out. The room was tidy, but not clean. The bed had no cover, just mismatched sheets put on wrong, and a folded coverlet we didn't trust enough to use, so we bought a blanket in town. There were bugs all over the kitchen, including a cluster of ladybugs in the picture. The shower curtain had algae stains along the bottom. Outside was so dark we used our phones to see where we were going. I tripped over a black parking block on the unlit black lot.

We slept well in the slightly firm king bed, and the place was okay and clean, but worn for the price and not being managed proactively. The door handles and other hardware need refreshing, and while the old refrigerator worked well, the wall sockets were loose enough that plugs might fall out. The hot tub was missing its floor intake cover, exposing hard, slightly sharp prongs; we told management. It's also very difficult to get in and out of the in-room tub if you have mobility issues. There was no food service or restaurant nearby, though Nashville, IN, is only a few minutes' drive away. One of the two TV remotes had dead batteries, but management brought replacements when asked.

The bed was comfy, and I loved the secluded entrance and the lovely scenery through the windows. We were in Suite #1. Shampoo and conditioner were supplied, but there were no spare rolls of toilet paper. The door needs to be realigned so it opens more easily. Another car parked beside us and made it hard for my husband to back out of the spot reserved for our suite on the side of the building.

After three years in a row in the same suite 10, which we'd loved, this visit a week ago changed our minds. The hot tub wouldn't heat or hold its temperature, and the chlorine smell was so overpowering that we couldn't use it anyway. They'd used chlorine instead of bromine, and opening the doors didn't clear the odor. It burned our noses, got into our clothes, and everything we brought home, including shoes and my hair roller, reeked of it. We had to wash and spray everything and leave the suitcase outside. We kept the patio door open most of the night to air the room out, even though it was cold. We also had to reuse four towels for three and a half days, and got only one toilet paper roll and no tissues. At 9 p.m. one night, I tripped on a garden hose across the dark sidewalk. There were no sidewalk or parking lot lights, and a step ladder sat in front of our door for two days until someone removed it. The mini-fridge freezer was so iced over that nothing would fit. We're very disappointed. This used to be our favorite place, but we won't return.
