Thompson Nashville, by Hyatt

For a two-day weekend with my wife, Thompson Nashville (Edit Hotel) was a great fit: the room, service, and location were outstanding. With the new 2025 Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits, we got $60 per day for breakfast, a $100 property credit, and an extra $30 drink credit on arrival, $250 total. Prices are high, so we used it: breakfast at Killebrew twice and Marsh House, plus dinner and drinks at the Rooftop Bar before a concert, which we bought with our stubhub credit. Valet is $65 plus tax and tips. Nearby garages charge $42, about as good as it gets unless you park on the street overnight. The $100 property credit can't cover valet. I'd park overnight and lyft around; Broadway is about $10-15 away. At checkout, the invoice doesn't show a full breakdown of charges and credits, so you'll need to do the math to confirm the benefits were applied. One small management suggestion: the hall carpets look a little rough and could use professional cleaning.

The rest of the hotel experience was lackluster, and the customer support felt like what you'd get at a two-star hotel. I stayed using my AMEX Platinum card, but no one explicitly told me that dinner charges had to go on my room to qualify for the credit. Two months later, an employee I didn't know said that was the rule and refused to honor the credit. There are a dozen other high-quality hotels in Nashville, so I wouldn't stay here.

We spent my birthday weekend at the Thompson, and the restaurant went above and beyond to celebrate with me. Beck was one of the best servers we've ever had, from the drinks to the sparklers that ended the evening. The hotel staff gave us top service from the moment we arrived with our fur baby Teddy until our car was brought around to leave. They really know how to make a birthday girl feel special, and the way they welcome small pets wins hands down.

We booked this Nashville weekend at the Thompson using our Amex Platinum points, with a $200 food and beverage credit and a $60 daily breakfast credit. After a bad Marriott stay in Houston, where we checked out early for the Hyatt Regency Galleria, the check-in there made me rethink my Marriott loyalty. This stay sealed it: after years as a Marriott loyalist with lifetime status and more than 100 hotel nights a year, I'll be switching to Hyatt in 2026. At 11:30 a.m., the check-in was quick and welcoming. They explained our Amex benefits and said no upgrades were available yet, which was understandable. My wife and I were offered complimentary sparkling wine afterward. The lobby was nicely decorated for the holidays and had plenty of seating. The hotel has Marsh House, Killebrew Coffee, and the L.A. Jackson cocktail bar; you can read our reviews of Marsh House and Killebrew Coffee. Our room was spacious and nice, with room for two suitcases off the floor and a fully stocked minibar, but everything in the fridge was warm and not worth consuming. The water also took several minutes to warm up. In the Gulch, there are shops, bars, high-end restaurants, sports bars, breweries, cocktail spots, and coffee shops within walking distance. It's a walk to Broadway, though doable. We preferred this nicer, quieter area during the day to the crowds near Broadway. We'll try more Thompson hotels on future trips.
