Sea Girt Lodge

The pool was lovely, and we spent every evening and one morning there. The rooms were clean, and the cleaning staff were efficient and diligent. The front desk staff seemed a tiny bit surly, probably because of the hour we arrived, but they knew their jobs, so I still give them five stars. We could drive to the property easily, and it’s close to lots of great restaurants. We ended up here after escaping a terrible place near the boardwalk. It was farther away than we wanted and the only option left on short notice for a weekend, but the difference was night and day. We’ll visit again next year!

I booked two rooms for my group through hotels.com, but somehow the reservation changed to two days from now. I called within two minutes of noticing the date, and neither the hotel nor hotels.com would refund me. I spoke with Joe at the hotel, and he blamed the third-party app, which isn’t true. He took over $300 from me without providing any service. I’m going to contact the BBB and the news if I have to. This was horrible, and I wouldn’t stay here or give this man my money.

Sea Girt Lodge had what I needed for one night: a quiet location, plenty of towels, a fridge and freezer, and a clean room with everything working. I paid $109 for two beds, and didn’t have to touch the AC or heat. I usually find something to complain about at a name-brand chain, but not here. I’m assuming it’s family owned, and I have no complaints.

I woke up at 3 a.m. covered in bedbug bites and went to the front desk. The man working there said I’d get a refund and claimed Expedia hadn’t processed the payment, but I checked with Expedia myself and confirmed they had already paid him. I left at 3:30 a.m., exhausted, uncomfortable, and disgusted. On top of the bites, I was lied to and denied a refund. One of the worst travel experiences I’ve had. Absolutely unacceptable. Avoid this motel.
