Macaluso's At The Lantern Lodge

The food was full of flavor, from the pepper appetizer my boyfriend liked so much to his veal and my ahi starter. My dinner special, angel hair with scallops, mussels, and shrimp, had plenty of flavor too, and the different ingredients worked well together. We ended with a great chocolate cake, plus an after-dinner drink from the bartender, who was awesome. Celia gave us outstanding service. We had booked for my birthday with our ten-month-old, and our table was already set with menus and a high chair when we arrived. It was nice to get out of the downtown bustle and enjoy this place. We’ll stay at the hotel and eat here next time we’re in the area.

The hotel room was dirty, with mold throughout and especially in the bathroom. We were itchy in bed all night, and there were no toiletries or coffee maker. This was a very sad stay and not what I expected. We came to Jim Thorpe for my boyfriend’s birthday and ate at the restaurant too. It was just OK. My chicken marsala tasted like water and had no flavor, so I complained and didn’t eat it, but they still charged me. They said they’d give us dessert, then charged us for that as well. They didn’t ask if I wanted something else.

The food was solid, if nothing special, and the waitress who eventually helped us was really nice and friendly. Getting service at first was strange, though. The restaurant and bar were practically empty, with just four other occupied tables, and two servers passed us without even saying hello or that they’d be right over. We waited more than five minutes just to order drinks. One waitress gave the table beside us all her attention, chatting with the gentleman there and explaining desserts, then returning to take their order, while still not taking ours. There was no balance in how the tables were being served.

The chicken parmesan was delicious. This was our first time at Macaluso's, and we liked the food and atmosphere.
