The room was clean and quiet for the price, with modern features, but the lack of breakfast means it wouldn't be my first pick when passing through New Caney again. The front desk staff were warm and very helpful. Beds were comfortable, and I liked the thermostat fan control, lit desk, sturdy bath towels, pillows, shower pressure, window privacy and light controls, mirrors, and hair dryer. On the downside, there was no silverware, washcloth hook in the shower, or light above the in-room table. The coffee was terrible, there was only one hand towel, and the bath soap and shampoo bottles were hard for older guests to squeeze. The in-room coffee maker hadn't been sanitized. That should be routine, since anyone can put whatever they want in its water tank, use your imagination.

That gym was better than any membership gym I've seen, with dumbbells up to 100 lbs, a Concept 2 rowing machine, and plenty more. Breakfast was a highlight too: I had an omelette with a soft egg shell around perfectly cooked onion, bacon, tomato, and melted cheddar. The rooms were modern, tasteful, clean, and comfortable, and the staff were extremely friendly. I can't believe I stayed here for under $200 a night.

The full gym was one good thing, but I won't be back. There were cockroaches in my room, mold on the dishes from not being cleaned, and the toilet looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The tank heater ran out of hot water. Breakfast costs extra, $11 a person for waffles, and after the rest of the stay I figured it would taste like garbage. It seemed like the same food other hotels give away with free breakfast. The place is trying to look fancy, but I'd rather stay at a Comfort Suites or La Quinta for less than half the price. I stay in hotels often, and this was way overpriced.

Doc at the front desk was great the next morning. He contacted the owner and got the pet fee refunded, even though I shouldn't have been charged it in the first place. The hotel looks nice, is new, and was fairly clean, but the Friday night receptionist left us with a terrible impression. We arrived late and tired from the road. She said our service dogs meant we had to be on the first floor, and since no king room was available there, we'd have to take two doubles. I accepted that, assuming it was policy. When I showed her proof for the dogs, she barely looked at it and said, "I'm not reading that, what size are they?" I said they were large, and she replied, "So not real service animals." She then charged a pet fee without telling me, plus a pet incidental deposit she claimed was because we had an infant, not because of the dogs. The AC wasn't working when we got to the room. We waited an hour with it running, but the room was still nearly 80 degrees. When my husband asked for a different room, she refused, saying we had pets and were already checked in. We spent the whole night in the hot room. If Doc had been there the night before, I doubt we'd have had these problems. I encourage people not to stay here because of what I believe was illegal charging for service animals, and because she wouldn't move us to a room with working AC, even with an infant with us.

I felt pressure and nausea as soon as I entered the room, and it didn't go away until I left the building. There was orange mold inside the shower, though the rest of the place looked fairly clean. I suspect mold or another air quality issue in the room or hotel affected us. It had nice amenities, and I wish we'd been able to stay longer, but anyone sensitive to mold or air quality problems should skip this location.
