Wentworth by the Sea, A Marriott Hotel & Spa

The rooms are very clean, though after our visit six years ago the bed frames still seemed the same. They could use some updating, along with fluffier bedding. Still, this place combines luxury service with a family-friendly feel. You're close to the city of Portsmouth, but the hotel is down the street in a quiet oasis. The pool is clean and inviting, and there's a tucked-away outdoor hot tub for adults. Salt restaurant has an upscale feel, plus a lounge where you can walk in first come, first served. They met every family need: microwave, utensils, glassware, and the complimentary coffee is a favorite. Make an early-evening reservation at Salt ahead of your visit. The food and drinks are worth the splurge, and Christina, our waitress, made the experience.

A lovely midwinter getaway for one night. The room was comfortable and nicely appointed, dinner was delicious, and the pool and hot tub were just the right temperature. I really appreciated the free coffee and cappuccino machine. Ethan, our dinner server, was one of the best I've had anywhere: engaging, knowledgeable, and efficient. We'd love to come back.

Because of my health and the weather, we spent a lot of time in our comfortable, beautiful room, watching the snow through the floor-to-ceiling windows and playing board games by the fireplace. We ate at Salt and had room service too. The food was creative, lovely to look at, and delicious. The brussels sprouts were the best I've ever had. Staff were kind, attentive, and professional, and we recommend the Wentworth without hesitation. My husband would have liked to see more about the important history of the Wentworth and the area, including the Treaty of Portsmouth.

The room was very comfortable, but for an Opal hotel it was missing some high-end touches. The heating system was noisy, the towels were small and rough, and the bedding could be better, with plush pillows and quilts. There were robes but no slippers to go with them.
