Comfort Inn New Columbia

Just needed somewhere affordable and clean for the night, and this did the job. The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The hallways were stained and smelled a bit, though, and the place is older. Breakfast had a good range of options.

The tub floor in my photo looks like built-up dirt, not hard-water or mineral stains. It’s disgusting. I saw an earlier review from someone who said they got athlete’s foot after showering in a dirty tub, and this buildup could explain that. The hotel needs to clean it properly, give it a more thorough scrub, or replace the tub if cleaning doesn’t work. The TV was a problem too: I plugged my PlayStation into the HDMI outlet to watch shows, and got sound but no picture. These out-of-date TVs still have AV hookups on the back. People are here to relax, so it’s time to upgrade.

It’s close to R15 and was still quiet. Breakfast was just mediocre, and I would’ve liked a few more healthy choices.

We were sorry to be just passing through and not have longer to rest and enjoy the place. We usually stay at Quality Inn when we travel, since rooms are often around $100 and many locations allow pets. This was the best Quality Inn we’ve stayed at. The room’s style was older, despite the gray, modern look I found cozy, and it didn’t have the updated furniture and design of many hotels, but it was clean, well maintained, and comfortable. It didn’t feel old or gross. There was a bathroom exhaust fan and a dehumidifier in the room, which kept it from feeling damp or moldy. I can’t stress how much of a difference that makes. Everything looked and felt clean. Little touches around the hotel, like seating nooks, potted plants, pool toys, and areas to lounge by the pool, made it seem like the owners cared about guests’ experience. Breakfast had loads of options and was well stocked and nicely laid out. I also loved having an actual table in the room instead of just a desk. And with our pet, I didn’t feel like we’d been given the crappiest room. It felt like they really wanted us there, rather than reluctantly handing over a room and some breakfast as if we were a burden. The night staff member seemed unenthusiastic about my late check-in, but he wasn’t unkind. I’m so glad we found a nice place to rest before finishing the last leg of our trip from FL to NY through the mountains.
