The Study at Yale

We really enjoyed our stay at The Study. The rooms are kept to a high standard, and the staff are very friendly. Service in the bar and dining hall was attentive, and the food was great.

The first night was fine, and the room was nice and large, which is what you’d expect at over $400. We left around 10am Sunday to visit the coast and returned at 5pm to find the room hadn’t been serviced: the bed wasn’t made, the bathroom wasn’t cleaned, and the towels hadn’t been replaced. The staff said service had stopped at 3pm and they couldn’t clean it, but could bring fresh towels. I pushed Tyler Anderson, the manager, about it. He said they couldn’t do anything, though after I insisted on having the bed made and bathroom cleaned quickly, he came with an employee. He appeared to try making the bed without knowing how, then left in a hurry when I offered to show him. The only compensation offered was free parking, which costs them nothing. I asked again to speak with the director the next day, but I’ve never seen behavior this bad at a hotel in this category. I’ll update my comment accordingly.

The south-facing room on the third floor was just perfect on cold December days, with the sun pouring in. Manager Peggy runs the place really well, and Raeesa and Kwan at the front desk were wonderful. Valet parking was prompt. Each morning, sipping lobby coffee while browsing the FT,WSJ and NYT was an ideal way to wake up.

Whenever I visit family in the area, I stay here. The rooms are roomy and well kept, and the staff are friendly and accommodating. I don’t eat at the restaurant much, but the meals I’ve had there were excellent. The free coffee in the lobby each morning is hard to beat.
