The Holiday Inn Resort was a great base for Mardi Gras. It's beside Bourbon Street and within easy walking distance of the French Quarter, so we didn't need to think about transportation. The team welcomed us right away, and they even called to ask how we liked our room. Valet service was excellent, and after checkout we could leave our luggage in the cloakroom while we explored a little longer. We were in Room 712, a roomy suite that worked well for our family. I'd booked a king bed but got a queen; fortunately, the large sofa bed was perfect for the kids. There was lots of storage, including coat and shoe closets and bathroom storage. Both the living room and dining area had TVs, and the broad kitchen counter seemed handy for cooking or entertaining. The RFID wristband key was convenient too. Guests can use the terrace pool. The bathroom was a good size and comfortable, though the toilet flushed slowly and took a while to refill. There were no blackout shades, so the morning sun woke us naturally. We enjoyed the stay and would return to New Orleans.

The concierge was a nice extra, and the service felt personal. Everyone was so friendly, greeting us each time as if we'd known them for months. The location is the main draw. They have complimentary washers and dryers, but staff use them for several hours a day, so guests can't always get to them. Knowing the schedule would've helped us plan. Still, since the laundry is free, it's hard to complain much.

The room was laid out well, everyone was kind and friendly, and we had a great trip overall. I was staying through a family member's timeshare. A few things made the stay less comfortable. The beds were extremely hard, with mattresses only about six inches thick on box springs, so they felt like boards after a long day walking. The AC couldn't be set below 68 and clicked loudly the whole time. The shower head had little control and soaked you as soon as you turned it on. I didn't ask to have these things fixed, which is why I'm taking off a star.

We got a four-day, three-night deal as IHG members with a tour for $199. We didn't join the vacation club, and the presentation lasted two hours. The room was great for us and our two teenagers, though we brought a twin air mattress. Bourbon Street and Canal Street were right nearby, and everything else was walkable or a trolley ride away. The hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. We also liked the carryout place across the street, especially its good morning coffee.

The room was spacious and very clean, the location was great, and Mrs. Sue was among the kindest and most helpful employees. I would've given five stars if the vacation resort process hadn't been such a problem. No one called or texted to say the room was ready, and I wasn't told I had to speak with the “concierge,” meaning the sales people, to get my room key. They charged me a $50 tour fee even though the sales staff said there wouldn't be one and the email showed $0. I kept calling the hotel and tour desk in circles to get it removed. I'll stay with Marriott next time.
