Hotel Theo New Orleans, Tapestry Collection by Hilton

During Mardi Gras, this was easily the worst hotel stay I’ve ever had. I’m a Hilton Honors rewards member and have stayed everywhere from five-star Chicago properties to budget-friendly hotels, but Hotel Theo in New Orleans was unacceptable. My room wasn’t ready at the 4:00 PM check-in time. When I finally got in, four grown male staff members watched me struggle with the door and my luggage. Another woman staying there stepped in to help while they continued watching. That set the tone. Room 811 had ice cold water, no towels after they ran out, a toilet that barely flushed, and leaking pipes that left water on the floor. For what we paid during Mardi Gras, that was inexcusable. The valet was $50 a day, but whenever we asked for the car, the staff complained and suggested we “just walk to the garage.” Paying for valet should mean getting valet service, without attitude. The attached restaurant was another bad experience. An employee charged me $10 for a cup of water taken from the back employee area. It felt dishonest and unprofessional, and left a sour impression, even though I paid. What stood out most was how indifferent the front desk and management seemed about the repeated problems. I understand Mardi Gras is busy, but that doesn’t excuse poor service, maintenance problems, or dismissive staff. There was no hospitality here. I wouldn’t recommend the property, and I’ll reconsider staying at this location in the future.

Kerry at the front desk worked incredibly hard and went above and beyond for us. We appreciated him throughout our stay. Malcom was kind and friendly too, and the staff as a whole made a great impression and made all the difference. The only thing that could be better is the room and floor temperature. Otherwise, we had a great visit.

We stayed at Hotel Theo during the French Quarter Festival and would happily come back. Our room had no windows, which was actually a plus for sleeping late. It was clean, the water was hot, and the AC was ice cold. Malcolm and Gwen at the front desk welcomed us warmly. You can walk about five minutes to everywhere you want to go, so the location is great.

I’ve stayed at a lot of hotels in New Orleans, and Hotel Theo ranks among my best visits. Kerry greeted everyone with a smile at the front desk, while Leslie handled housekeeping and made sure the room was spotless for our early check-in. The staff were 10/10.
